And now, Admonition, brought to you by the Collierville Church of Christ.
We read in 2 Samuel 2 in verse 1 that after the death of Saul David is going to do something. We read Verse one.
It happened after this that David inquired of the Lord saying, Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said to him, Go up.
David when he’s trying to decide what to do, inquired of the Lord, and we need to learn that lesson in our own lives.
We need to learn that before we make big decisions and small ones, we should pray and seek God’s guidance.

In Second Samuel, Chapter two, we read about David enquiring of the Lord and asking the Lord, What should I do now that Saul is dead? Should I go up to the cities of Judah? And the Lord tells him to go up.
Guess what David does? Having found out what God wants him to do. He does it. You and I need to learn in our lives that obedience ought to be that simple.
When we know what God has told us to do, we simply ought to do it.

2 Samuel 1:23 Saul and Jonathan were beloved and pleasant in their lives, And in their death they were not divided; They were swifter than eagles, They were stronger than lions.

How do you speak about those who do you wrong? When David is mourning the death of Saul and Jonathan… Saul, of course, being one who had tried to kill him, who had run him away from his own home, who was seeking his life. And yet, David says, in 2 Samuel 1:23,
Saul and Jonathan were beloved and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided. They were swifter than eagles. They were stronger than lions.
David chose to speak good of one who have done evil to him. How are you speaking about those who are your enemies today?

2 Samuel 1:14-16 So David said to him, “How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the LORD’S anointed?” 15 Then David called one of the young men and said, “Go near, and execute him!” And he struck him so that he died.16 So David said to him, “Your blood is on your own head, for your own mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have killed the LORD’S anointed.'”

Has your mouth ever gotten you in trouble? I know one person’s who did. An individual comes to David after Saul and Jonathan die on the battlefield against the Philistines and he claims to have killed Saul.
We read in Second Samuel chapter one that after he claims this, David will command him to be executed and will say, “your blood is on your own head for your own mouth has testified against you saying, “I have killed the Lord’s anointed.”
We need to be careful how we use our mouth. Sometimes it just might get us in a world of trouble.

There’s a lesson for us in 2 Samuel, Chapter one. A man comes to David seeking a reward. He claims to have killed Saul on the battlefield.
He claims to have been the one who killed the king who was trying to kill David. And he thought David would like this… But David didn’t, because we read that David will command this individual to be executed and will say,
Your blood is on your own head for your own mouth has testified against you, saying I have killed the Lord’s anointed.

He believes he’s going to come and bring this news of Saul dying, and David would be glad, and David would reward him, but something else happens instead.
In second Samuel, Chapter one David said in verse 14. How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?

Eph 4:26 Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath…
Transcript: And now, Admonition, brought to you by the Collierville Church of Christ.
We mentioned in the past something that’s really hard, especially for some people. And that’s controlling their anger.
Sometimes we just fly off the handle. Sometimes we lose our temper. Sometimes we’re quick tempered, and those are the qualities of a Christian.
So what can we do to avoid anger? Number one, Paul says in Ephesians Chapter four, Verse 26.
Do not let the sun go down on your wrath. Anger builds upon anger from the past. When we deal with the situations of today, while it is still today, we don’t have to relive them tomorrow.
Deal with your anger today and live the life of a Christian.

Where was David when he saw the beautiful woman bathing? 2 Samuel 11:2
2Sa 11:2 Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold.
ANSWER: on the roof of the king’s house
(yes or no) Was the woman, who David saw bathing, married? Did he have her brought to him anyway? 2 Samuel 11:3-4
TEXT: So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house.
ANSWER: Yes. Yes.
What did the message say which Bathsheba sent David? 2 Samuel 11:5
TEXT: And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.“
ANSWER: I am with child.
When David had Bathsheba’s husband brought from battle, how did David try to get him to go home? 2 Samuel 11:9-13
TEXT: 2Sa 11:9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and did not go down to his house. 10 So when they told David, saying, “Uriah did not go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Did you not come from a journey? Why did you not go down to your house?” 11 And Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields. Shall I then go to my house to eat and drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.” 12 Then David said to Uriah, “Wait here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next. 13 Now when David called him, he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk. And at evening he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house.
ANSWER: made him drunk.
How did David have Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband, killed? 2 Samuel 11:15-17
TEXT: 2Sa 11:15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die.” 16 So it was, while Joab besieged the city, that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew there were valiant men. 17 Then the men of the city came out and fought with Joab. And some of the people of the servants of David fell; and Uriah the Hittite died also.
ANSWER: He was retreated from during the battle and left to die.
Did David marry Bathsheba after her husband Uriah’s death? 2 Samuel 11:27
TEXT: And when her mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
ANSWER: Yes
Was God pleased with what David had done concerning Bathsheba and Uriah? 2 Samuel 11:27
TEXT: And when her mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
The life of David, the king of Israel, was often filled
with difficulty — the affairs of state, the continual wars and unrest and
threats against his kingdom. To further
complicate the matter, David had a weakness for women and would, in turn,
father many children. Still, they would not receive adequate attention from
their father because of the previously mentioned difficulties.
As a result, there will not always be a good
relationship between David and his sons.
Surrounding David were many power-hungry advisors and political leaders
that would influence his sons in the wrong direction (cf. Jonadab – 2 Samuel
13:4; Ahithophel – 2 Samuel 15:12).
Amid all these struggles, what can often happen in the
life of a family is that one child begins to do wrong, and no one corrects
it. According to 1 Kings 1:5-6, this is
precisely what happened with Adonijah, the brother of Absalom.
Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king”; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. (And his father had not rebuked him at any time by saying, “Why have you done so?” He was also very good-looking. His mother had borne him after Absalom.)
1 Kings 1:5-6
Solomon, a son of David who would observe his brothers’
attempts to overthrow David, would write this wisdom to his son: “Chasten
your son while there is hope, And do not set your heart on his destruction”
(Proverbs 19:18). There is importance in expeditiously handling
wrongdoing. The correction postponed can
become an encouragement to further bad behavior instead of being a
deterrent. There comes a time when it is
too late to hope for turning a child from wickedness. They have plotted their course into iniquity
and its untimely end. Adonijah would
ultimately reach the end of his life at the order of his brother, Solomon when
seeking to usurp the throne once more.
Then King Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, “May God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life! “Now therefore, as the LORD lives, who has confirmed me and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has established a house for me, as He promised, Adonijah shall be put to death today!” So King Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he struck him down, and he died.
(1 Kings 2:23-25)
Parents and Grandparents, correct your children and
grandchildren before it is too late – while there is still hope – before sin
overthrows the good in their life and brings its ultimate conclusion… death
(Romans 6:23).

When you were taught the gospel when you were taught what a person’s supposed to do to become a Christian, were you taught how a Christian lives? Were you taught that you couldn’t continue to live the way you always lived? There are some churches today that don’t teach that. They teach that you can supposedly “accept Christ” and then life just goes on.
No, Paul says in Ephesians, Chapter four, verse 20. But you have not so learned Christ… Did you know that becoming your Christian is a learning process?

But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard him and have been taught by him as the truth is in Jesus that you pull it off concerning your former conduct the old man, which grows corrupt according to the deceitful us and be renewed In the spirit of your mind,
Paul says, when you become a Christian, your mind is supposed to change because you’re supposed to learn Christ — we’ll talk about that more — but are you learning to live like Christ?

Ephesians 4:17-19 – This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

There’s an interesting point that Paul makes in Ephesians, Chapter four verses 17 and 18. He talks about the Gentiles who are futile in their mind. He says they’re they’re of no value. They’re pointless because of the way they’re living, because they’re living in a way that is ignorant of God, and they’re choosing a course in life based upon their ignorance of God.
So when you think about that, when he says that… In the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from a life of God because of the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart… when you read those words, does it make you want to stop and know God better? Does it also explain to you the struggles and the difficulties you see in the world around you because people live ignorant of God?

2 Corinthians 1:10-11 – who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us, you also helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the gift granted to us through many.
2 Corinthians 1:8-9 – For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead
Good morning. We’re going to try very hard this morning not to cough because if we start, we’re not going to stop most likely. Uh, I went to the doctor and the doctor said, you have what everyone else has and there’s nothing I can do for you here. Take these pills that may get better. So, uh, it’s, it’s not contagious,
but the drainage is pretty bad. So, uh, if we, if we start coughing, uh, just, just be patient, eventually quit. Take your Bibles if you will, and open them to Psalm 139 we’re going to spend, we spent last Sunday morning in this passage. We’re going to spend some more time in it this morning and again,
next week we’ve been noticing a series of faults from this passage. Oh, around this central idea. God knows you. God knows me. David writes this, Saul, were they distinct message to declare God, to declare his glory, to declare his power, his majesty, his knowledge, his mind, his omniscience, his omnipresence? Yes. All of those things.
That’s not why David wrote them. So David took the pen of inspiration and he wrote this all not to declare just how great God is for God is great, but to declare that God in his greatness, in his omniscience, in his almighty nature, in his army, present nature, God cared about David as a singular individual on this earth and we are not to stay in back and look at this passage and to read these words as David writes them and read them and think,
well, it’s sure is nice that God cared about them. David, that’s not the point where to draw. That’s not the reason why the Holy spirit calls David depend this, this song we are to read this Solomon to be reminded that as God knew David as God in in all of his mind and all of his power and his majesty cared for David uniquely as an individual person,
not just a person who was alive, not just run out of all humanity, but as an individual. God cared for David. God fought concerning David. God acted based upon David, but we learn that God does that for each of us. David writes in Psalm one 39 verse one you have searched me and know me. David will declare at the end of Psalm one 39 in verses 23 and 24 search me,
O God and know my heart. He says, you have shirked me out. You have know me. You have investigated me And I hope you will continue to do so. Do you want to have a best friend who never thinks about you? Yeah, I mean when you picture in your mind what a best friend is. Well, someone who’s who’s like your own heart,
someone who’s incredibly close to you, do you want do you picture in your mind that person who never imagined you exist until they see you coming, never thinks about you in times of quiet when when they go, you know what I’ve been thinking about you Who never gives any contemplation or thought to you whatsoever until you just happened to be in there presence? Is that the idea of a best friend?
No. A best friend is Warren who is thinking about you when you’re not there, who does things for you when you don’t ask them to, who’s imagining what you might be doing, her, considering you as giving fault and care and concern and love to you without you asking. This is the idea that David brings forth concerning God, one who searched him out.
David’s not negating the necessity of us as humans, longing for searching, for being obedient to God. That’s, but that’s not his point. His point is that God had a desire to search out and know David personally, and this is a lesson to us that God knows us. He knows he knew David. He searched out David to know him, but God desires to know each and every one of us.
But notice the end of verse 23 and 24 he says, search me God and know my heart. Try me and know my anxieties. Test me. God, examine me. Understand me personally is David’s cry even to his cares, his concerns, those things that he is anxious for. Verse 24 and see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way of everlasting.
So here David calls upon God who has searched him in the past who hasn’t known him, who knows his every action is noses, every thought and he knows his sitting down verse two and is rising up. He knows the faults that David will think before David ever thinks. Then that’s what we discussed last week. We come now to verse three and understand as David expresses that God knows my actions and my speech.
Notice verse three you comprehend my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. David says, you’ve looked at me, Lord, you’ve searched me out, you’ve examined and investigated me and you know every action I take<inaudible> There is a multi billion dollar business in our country that is 100% made up of telling people what someone else did. It’s called news.
I mean we get newspapers, there’s magazines, there’s broadcast television, there’s internet, there’s blogs, the list goes on and on and on and it’s all made up of telling other people was someone else. But David says, when it comes to God, you know, not you search out and you’ll figure it out. You know, present tense. You mind sitting down in my rising up,
you understand my thoughts are far off. You comprehend my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways for there is not a word on my tongue, but behold the Lord. You know it all together. God, you know, lie every action. And as we discussed a little bit last week, this idea to some will not be a good thing.
They will not imagine this idea of God knowing everything do and everything they say and thing. You know what? I’m really bad about that. Yeah. They might not be imagining that it would be a good thing to have a judge, a creator, and all powerful King. Knowing where every action<inaudible> We can see throughout our society, individuals who code to a point in their lives because of their deeds,
because of their ways, because of their decision. Well, they seek earnestly to keep their actions hidden. Jesus said concerning the Jews, that being a reference in context to the Jewish leadership, but they were those who did their deeds in the dark because their deeds were evil because they were evil because their actions were sinful and wrong. They sought to hide their actions.
Yeah. David told them centuries before, you can’t hide your actions from the Lord. I can hide my actions from the Lord. We can think of a time in David’s life where David had committed a sin where David had compounded that sin with lies had ultimately had compounded those lies with murder. Yeah, and David knew people knew about it, but David was the King.
Okay, And everyone in the society had determined, well, he’s the King. It’s in his hands. He’s the ultimate authority, but God’s prophet Nathan came to David and declared to David that he was wrong. David wasn’t the ultimate authority. And Nathan brought this story to David. He says there’s a man who has one small lamb and the neighbor, another man who has many flocks and many herds.
Yeah. And this member of grade wealth comes in because of his desire to feed a guest. He takes the one lamb that this man has and he takes it and he kills it. He feeds his guests with it. David is upset. David is irate. David wants to know who is this man? I’ll kill him myself. He was in the major ending date he had in the nation towards this man because what he had done was wrong.
He took, instead of taking from his own, instead of taking from what he had, he stole from someone else out of his own selfishness. Nathan looked at David and said, thou art the man. David was not perfect. And yet David was the one who said, God, you know my every action and God you please search out my every thought.
So as we mold our minds to understand David’s perspective here, as we seek to get a perspective on what David is saying and how we can desire God to know us and to know him in return. Let’s begin. Yeah, and in job chapter 28 job chapter 28 this patriarch makes this statement, Joe chapter 28 and in verse 24 speaking concerning God, verse 23 God understands its way and he knows its place.
Speaking concerning death and destruction for he looks to the ends of the earth, AMCs under the whole heaven job and his place in patriarchy and his place in time. He understands that there’s nothing hidden from the Lord. There is nothing that is done under heaven that is hidden from God. Proverbs chapter five in Proverbs, chapter five Solomon, the son of David,
will write these words for the ways of man. Verse 21 are before the eyes of the Lord and he ponders all his paths. Reinforcement, reinforcing this idea that David has expressed that God saw David and that God knew David and that God knew his every thought, his every word of his. Every action. These writers reiterate that that’s not just true about David.
It’s true about all humanity. God knows what happens in this life. There are those who contemplated many times throughout history as they sought to enact evil deeds as they sought to turn away from God. They would say concerning God, he neither sees us nor knows us. Isaiah chapter 29 But such was wishful thinking. Such was simply not true and God would make it clear to those individuals in that time.
I do see, and I will judge so he knows our actions. He also knows our speech. He knows what we do. He knows what we say. Turn to Matthew chapter 12 Matthew chapter 12 and in verse 34 Jesus accuses those who were present within credibly strong words because they were wicked because they spoke against God because they could witness miracles and the power of God happening right before their eyes and deny it and go so far to not just deny it,
but to claim it was the power of Satan. Jesus said in verse 34 brood of Vipers. How can you being evil speak good things? Jesus looks at this group of people and he calls them a family of snakes, Not just any snake, not your garden variety snake, not the kind of snake that you see on the ground. Yo snake over there.
I’m just, I’m going to stay out of its way. It’ll be okay. No, He calls them a brood of Vipers. Vipers are a type of snake that are known For just being mean.<inaudible> Ambitious and seeking out prey and attacking. Even when not propagated. Jesus says, concerning these people, he says, you brood of Vipers. How can you being evil speak good things.
Now this is a question that is not searching for an answer. This is a question that is has an apparent answer. Notice what he says for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks a good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak,
they will give a account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words, you will be justified. And by your words, you will be condemned. Jesus says, concerning these men who are evil, Jesus says, concerning these men were unlike just Jesus says, concerning was brood of Vipers as he was calls them. Then you cannot produce good out of your mouth.
Now, this is not the idea that they could not repent, they could not change, they could not turn back from sin and begin serving righteousness and begin producing good. No, he’s saying your heart is evil and as long as it stays that way, all you protect deuce is corrupted by your sin. Everything you say is corrupted by your evil.<inaudible>.
David began Psalm one 39 with God knows my faults, Having discussed his thoughts, he says, and he knows my actions and he knows my words before I even speak them. Jesus accuses these individuals of being so evil that they could not produce any good thing from their mouth. And so when we are taught, so we are reminded that we have to control Our actions and our words.
James would write in James chapter one he would write to these Christians and he would say to them, so then my beloved brethren, let every man be Swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to Raph. He says, as you look at your decisions and you look at your reactions as you look at your daily life determined to do these three things,
be quick to hear. Now, for those of us who are by nature talkers, that one’s not easy. It’s not easy to be quick to hear, especially when you compound on top of that slow to speak. I can’t tell you how many times in my life that the quickness of my mouth has gotten me in trouble Because my brain says, well,
here’s the answer. Long before it ever fought to process, was anybody talking to you? Why don’t you be quiet? We need to learn to control our thoughts and in doing so, control our mouths. This is a larger problem for some people than it is for others. And we understand that. And yet is a command to all of us. It is a responsibility of us to look at ourselves and to say,
I need to sin first. So many times, arguments, disagreements, friction in relationships. Destruction in a home begins with not listening. First being ready to answer that parent, that child, that spouse, that grandparent, that grandchild being willing to answer before we’ve heard. We need to be those who are Swift to hear and slow to speak. But then there’s that third aspect of this command Swift to hear,
slow to speak, slow to wrath. James says, you not only need to control your reaction, you not only need to control how you hear people and world, what rapidity you hear versus what you speak, but you need to control your anger. We examine our lives, our actions, and our speech. We need to be careful that we’re not allowing our anger to control us instead of the other way around.
We get into a situation, we get into a disagreement with someone and we begin answering them instead of listening to them, and then we begin to get angry with them for something they never even did or never even said What’s wrong. We’ve become Swift to Amber swarf to speak and slow to hear Instead of what God would have us to be. Turn to Titus chapter two.
Titus chapter two As Paul writes to this preacher and in Monisha is this preacher to admonish others, encourages him to set forth the qualifications of elders, to instruct elders concerning their responsibilities, instruct young men concerning their responsibilities to teach older women, to take their responsibilities, a younger woman, to teach them or take their responsibilities. He then says in verse seven in all things showing yourself the guy,
he says, Titus, if you’re going to do all of this, if you’re going to fulfill your role as a minister of the gospel, if you’re going to fulfill your word as a preacher, you need to look back at you. He says in all things, showing yourself to be a pattern of good works in doctrine, showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility sound speech that cannot be condemned.
That one who has an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. That’s a high standard. Paul sets an incredibly high standard for tires as a preacher, as a teacher, as a young man, that he be blameless, But his speech be in such a way that no one could accuse him. No one could claim he was out for himself or seeking only his own.
Paul says, you watch yourself, guard yourself as we return to the book of Psalms. In Psalms one 41 we read in one Psalm one 41 and in verse three an incredible piece of wisdom. Somas writer says, set a guard. Oh Lord, over my mouth. Keep watch over the door of my lips. This is a prayer to God, a request of God,
a petition to God. God, would you be in control of my mouth? Would you defend my mouth? Not so that every argument that I make is correct, but that I keep my mouth shut when it needs to be<inaudible>. It’s interesting as you examine this idea that back in Psalm one 39 David says something else here in verses five and six after he’s talked about his thoughts,
after he’s talked about his actions, after he’s talked about his word, he says this in verse five you have hedged me behind him before and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is high. I cannot attain it. David says, concerning God, you’ve searched me. You’ve known me am you’ve set a boundary for me.
He says, you’ve had judged me in in front. You hedged me in, in back. You’ve set a guard, a protection for me. Sure That we might not. Sin is the idea. What is the guard that God has said? What is it that God has done that is protecting David from sin turned us on one 19 I think you’ll get your answer there.
I don’t think that this is talking about daily interactions. I don’t think the David is expressing the idea that God’s hedged him in in some sort of literal sense. I don’t think a magical hedge grow up around the nation of Israel so that nobody would attack it. I don’t think that’s what he’s talking about. Remember, David’s not talking about his kingdom. He’s talking about his thoughts,
his actions, and his words, and he says, God, you’ve hedged me in. You’ve built a protection for me. Psalm one 19 Verse 11 says, your word, have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against you? So I’m one 19 verse 23 and 24 says, princes also said, and speak against me, but your servant meditate on your statutes.
Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors. David says, when I’m a raid in front of those who have political prominence, who have political mind, who have political power, and they are my enemies, I go to your word and I allow it to be my counselor. I allow it to direct my path. Verse 33 teach me, Oh Lord,
the way of your statutes and I shall keep it to the end. Give me understanding and I shall keep your law. Indeed I shall observe it with my whole heart. David cries to God and he says, teach me your statutes, your ways, your laws so I can keep them. Psalm one 19 verse 46 I will speak of your testimonies also before Kings and will not ashamed God.
When I stand before Kings, when these canes from the nations around me come before me, I don’t want to use my wisdom. I don’t want to rely on me. I don’t want only my own knowledge to be what comes out my mouth. I might destroy myself. I might make a fool of myself. I might become a shame that my words,
but not if I speak your words. Isn’t it interesting that David’s son Solomon, when he comes to the throne, we read concerning the occasion where the queen of Sheba comes up to inquire, to see for herself if what she has heard about Solomon and his wisdom. Okay, It’s true, And she returned home. Having said the half has not yet been told.
How was it that Solomon spoke and ruled with such wisdom? Because the wisdom didn’t originate with Solomon. It wasn’t his words. It was God’s Psalm one 19 verse 59 versus 59 and 60 we read, I fought about my ways and turned my feet to your testimonies. I made hazed and did not delay to keep your commandments. What’s the picture that we’re getting here?
The picture of protection. The picture of avoiding being ashamed. The picture of one who has the ability to have counselors when all around them are people who are doing wicked. A picture of one who’s got something in his heart so he might not sin against God. What is the protection that God afforded David? It was his word. It was his law,
his testimonies, his statutes. So we read in Psalm one 19 verse 97 Oh how I love your law. It is my meditation all the day you through your commandments make me wiser than my enemies for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers. For your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients because I keep your precepts.
I have restrained my feet from every evil way that I may keep your word. I have not departed from your judgments. For you yourself have taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste? Sweeter than honey to my mouth. Those are through your precepts. I get understanding. Therefore, I hate every false way. So let’s back up and let’s bring this together.
David says, God, you’ve searched me and you’ve known me. You’ve known my thoughts and you know my every action. You know my every word before I speak it. You know who I am, but God, you’ve protected me. You’ve hedged me in and protected me from me. So often our own worst enemy is ourself. So often our own worst demon is right inside us in our own choices and our own struggles.
And yet David says to the Lord, you’ve hedged me in and kept me from destroying me. But how did he do it, David? How did it God direct your paths? David, how did God protect you? David, I put my self in your law. I made your word my meditation all the day I made sure I didn’t depart from your word.
I spoke your word when people were around me and instead of my own wisdom, I spoke yours and I wasn’t ashamed. I relied on you and from that reliance you have produced my safety. God knows me. David says, and I want him to continue to know me. David says, Because he directs my path And I walk in his light. As you’re here this morning,
who directs your path in whose light do you walk? If it’s not God’s, you walk in darkness because you don’t produce any light on your own. Jesus said, you are the light of the world. Sitting on the set on a Hill cannot be hid, but Jesus never intended us to take upon that the conclusion that we were the light and produced it.
We are to reflect the light of God. So if we direct our own paths, having no light in ourselves, we walk in darkness. And yet God tells us that we can walk in the light as he is in the light. And when we do the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all our sins and contend continues to cleanse us first. John chapter one.
So in whose light do you walk in whose light do you make your choices? By? Whose law do you live? If you’re outside the body of Christ this morning, why are you still there? Why not be obedient to God? If you have questions, we’ll sit down and study with you. If you have things that you’re not sure about, we’ll help you understand them from the scriptures you have need of changing your life.
So you know God the way he knows you. Why not begin to do that today? Why not begin now? Why not come forward as we stand and as we sing.
2 Corinthians 1:7 – And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.
San and his sons, three of them having died. The news will will come to David. David will have just returned from battle with the AMA kites and in and locate who comes from the camp of Soul. Comes with word that sells bed Had the same look. I just brought word that saw when Jonathan were dead. His fate probably would have turned out a little differently, but he didn’t. He brought word that Saul was dead, that Jonathan was dead and that solid died by his hands that he killed.
So there is much discussion as to whether or not he did kill Saul. Because the end of First Samuel we read concerning Saul dying and we read nowhere about this am a kite being involved. But we do recognize this Able Kite comes because he wants something. He comes with this message and he also comes with two other things. He comes with the crown and he comes with the bracelets of soul. He comes with the the the adornments of the King, and he comes to bring these to David and he comes seeking something.
Ultimately he will find his own death, and he will have his judgment pronounced by David in that he testified of here by himself that he had killed the Lord’s anointed. One commentator brought up the fact that going all the way back to Genesis, Chapter 10 God set forth a law that the run by whom blood was shed if he killed someone, his life was forfeit. And so even from that law alone, that law which had never been taken away as faras God was concerned. David was right in putting this man to death,
for he testified of himself that he had killed Saul. So he basically sentenced himself a cz well. But we read and Chapter two in verse one. It happened after this, the David inquired of Lord saying, Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah? Now, remember, David’s not in Judah David’s not in Judah because David has been fleeing has been escaping from Seoul and Saul’s desire to kill David. And so he has fled out of the tribe of Judah and is now dwelling and living outside of the land of Israel.
I release the reign of Judah, so inquires of the Lord. Shall I go up? There’s a distinct difference here. And it seemed throughout David’s life. In contrast to the life of soul, Saul was regularly pictured as the one who chose to do something and talk to the Lord later, the one who chose to make an offering when he was told by Samuel. I’ll be there in a certain day, and he goes in the States and waits and say, Well, doesn’t show up in Saul’s view on time.
And so Sol goes ahead and makes the sacrifices because he’s finishing the sacrifices. Who shows up? Samuel had so raided to speak to The Lord had so inquired of award. First, had Sol put God in the position of being first instead of himself, so many of the problems with Saul would have gone away. So many of the difficulties in Saul’s Kingdom would have gone away, and the reality was so would still have a kingdom. But because Soul decided that so would make the decisions instead of enquiring of Lord,
Saul’s kingdom was removed from him. David will be seen over and over and over again to be the one who inquires of Lord, he’s not seeking to guide his own path, he is seeking to allow the Lord to guide it. So then noticed what we read. It happened after this. The David inquired of Lord saying, Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said to him, Go up, David said, Where shall I go up? And he said to Hebron,
much like the days of Old and the Patriarchs. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. When David is considering the choice to make, he questions the Lord what is the right choice? But he not only questions the Lord, it is presumed in his questioning that whatever the Lord answers is going to be exactly what he does. It’s one thing to question the morning, though. Well, what should I do? And then, having heard the answer, go well and I like that idea. And there were kings who did that.
There were kings in the days of Israel and then the divided kingdom between Judah and the Northern Kingdom of Israel that would do that exact thing. If you remember, a habit would do that. A head would bring the Southern the king with his Southern TRIBE, jitter up, and they would be become too playing going to war. And the king of the Southern tribe of Judah would say, Well, um, we need to enquire of a Prophet of the Lord because they had had profits of bail. Come one after another and say,
You’re gonna be successful, you’re gonna be successful. You’re going to win. Everything’s gonna go great. You’re going to drive them out with the horns. But the King and Judas And, uh, let’s let’s get a profit ward in here. Is there a profit of Lord of Wei? Well, a helps is yes. Okay, I But he hates me. He always prophesized evil of May or Rosie was in jail. So have sends to get the Prophet of the Lord out of jail to clean him up,
bring him before the King and says, All right, this is what we’re going to do. We’ll be profitable or not. Okay, I says, Oh, everything’s gonna go well, you’re going to win. Everything will be successful and you’ll be blessed. And they have says, How many times have I told you to tell me the truth? Have do. The prophet was not going to come into terror drill that everything was going to go well, he moved Profit Lord Ray too well for that. And so the profit Lord says you’re going to go out to battle and you’re not coming back alive.
To which he terms to the king of Judah and says, See, I told you never prophesized anything good about me and guess what they have does And guess what the king of Judah does. They go on and do exactly what they plan to do before they ever inquired aboard. So it’s not a foregone conclusion. Just because somebody says, God, what should I do that they actually have any intention whatsoever of doing? One does, God said. But that’s what’s different about David. That’s what’s unique about David.
Is David inquires of the world so he can actually do what it is God wants him to do. So inquires will award show. I go up to the cities of Judah. I’m alone says Go up. But that’s not definitive enough for David. David doesn’t just want to generically go the direction God wants him to go. He wants to go where God wants him to go. So he inquired. Lord, to what city should I go up? I just want to go to Judah. Where do you want me to go?
And the Lord says to Hebron. So David ran up. Very still. We read in his two wives, also a hindering him. The Jezreel itis and Abigail. The riddle of Mabel the Carmelite and David brought up the man who were with him. Every may end with his household, so they dwelt in the cities of Hebron. So David goes up and David goes up with his family. This is not an invasion. This is not a military action. David moves. David relocates himself and the men who were with him and all their households,
and they come to Hebron. Then the middle Judah came. And there they anointed David King over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying the men of J. Best Gilead were the ones who buried Seoul. It’s kind of an interesting event here, and at my take on it may be different than someone else’s.
But here come these men of Judah. The indication is these were the leaders of the tribe of Judah,
not just, you know, 30 guys who are, uh, you know, just generally men in Judah going out.
Let’s just go anoint Know that this is the leadership of the TRIBE. The leadership of the tribe comes and annoyance.
David King in Judah. At what point did any men in Israel what point? Where any minute is were given permission by God to anointed King was that in the 40 that the man in Israel had no step back and think Who anointed sole king in Israel,
the prophet of the Lord? The Judge Samuel who anointed David King in Israel the same person. At no point did the Lord look at the leadership of the tribe of Judah and say,
OK, I’m going to defer to you now. What was the responsibility of the leadership of the tribes in regards to the one whom the Lord had anointed?
Their responsibility was to follow the one the Lord anointed not to go, often annoying their own king and not to go.
You know what? We don’t really mean Award little really care what he said, but we like his choice anyway,
So we’ll go ahead and annoying him. This is a beginning. Look into the fact that there is a division coming in amongst the people this is going to take a couple of generations to come to complete fruition.
But there’s a division coming because the leadership in the tribes believe that they’re in charge. They believe that they get a say in Who’s King and this goes all the way back to the problem that resulted in Saul being anointed to begin with.
Because you remember back in the days of same well, I think it’s around first Samuel, Chapter seven that the leadership in Israel comes to Samuel and they say,
appointed king over us Met. Give us a king like the nation’s around us, someone who will go out and fight our battles for us,
someone who will defend us. Some who wants someone who will do all of these things and they list a number of things.
They want a king to do This upset Samuel Same was very frustrated by a God tells saying, Well,
they have not rejected you. They’ve rejected me. They rejected the true king in Israel who was the Lord and now they think they’re in charge and so is so.
It would begin. So would rise up and saw will be annoyed by sailor and solar begin to rain.
But all throughout Saul’s reign, there would be issues between tribes going. You know what? I don’t like him anymore.
I don’t wanna follow. So a man when the Lord rejects. So at Annoyance Day, that is king.
They’re still TRIBE going. Well, I Well, I wouldn’t want to follow David. I want to follow cell and something for either one of them.
So the problem comes when people who have not been given any authority by God decide to take authority upon themselves.
And that same thing happens in the church. Well, individuals who have not met qualifications to be elders with individuals who have not met the requirements by God to lead the church into shepherd the flock,
decide to stand up and take charge. They do the same thing that the leaders in Israel did in that day.
And that is they reject the authority of God and substitute their own authority. You can see examples in the New Testament of individuals doing that in local congregations.
Dia trophies would be a prime example of that over in a second John or third, John. Uh,
that, though, John, um, so this this problem is going to result in the division in the nation that ultimately will never be repaired until the return from the Babylonian captivity.
It is not until hundreds of years later, when the Babylonian captivity and the return of the remnant from throughout the land of Babylon and throughout the land of Assyria comes back.
It is not until that time that the breach in the nation of Israel between tribes is repaired. Yes,
yes. Are you just Could they? It couldn’t be that they’re just honoring the decision that’s already been made.
It could be that it the text with a row that That’s why I said not everyone would necessarily agree with me on this.
But what’s what is clear is, although up until this point there have been fractures along the tribes and what you’re going to see in the range of the chapter is there are still going to be fractures,
TRIBE, because Jude is going to say OK, now, David, our king and Benjamin is going to say nuke,
not ours. So the application is going to be true because you have the leadership of the tribe’s going.
You know what? I’m choosing this king And you have Abner, who in this text is going to say?
Well, you know, I’m gonna point size air as king, and then Joe abs gonna fight for David is king,
and you’re going to see the beginning of this, and that’s that’s the point. Is this idea that the tribes ever had a say goes all the way back to the rejection of God as the king of Israel in the days of Samuel.
Okay, so ultimately, that’s what I’m trying to direct us back to. Is this idea that they never were given permission to say God said,
I’ll give you a king God said our anointed king. And then they started saying, Well, we have a say in the matter and God never gave them to say in the matter.
God never gave them a choice as to whether or not they would follow the one he set up if they chose not to.
It was a rejection of God. OK, does that make sense? Okay, so the men of Judah came there,
they loyally Kate David King over the house of Judah. And they told David saying, The man of J best gay and we’re the ones who buried Seoul so they would send messengers to the men of Job Iscariot and said to them,
You are blessed of the Lord, for you have shown this kindness to your lord to Saul and have buried him.
And now may the Lord show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness because you have done this thing now.
Therefore, let your hands be strengthened and the Valium for your master Saul is dead. And also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.
So David said word to these men of Jamie’s Gilead because they had buried survey. If you remember the events that have transpired we read about on Wednesday night,
they have gone up knowing that Saul had been taken, his body had been taken. His sons and their bodies had been taken by the Philistine Sze and had been tacked to the well.
They’re in the idols house. They had snuck up in the midst of the night and they had taken Saul and his sons and they have brought them back.
They burned the bodies, they buried them. Okay, so these events had happened, and David when he finds out who did.
This sends word to thank them for doing this, for showing this honor at, by the way, their own peril.
Because they went into the enemy’s camp to do it. They went into a city of the Philistine to accomplish this deed.
They put their own lines at risk in order to accomplish this thing that they did towards Saul and David was glad they did.
It shows the contrast in character between David and Soul because so would do so much against David. And yet at every turn,
when someone did something good towards Saul, David was happy they did. David was glad, and David rejoiced in those who did good,
no matter what had been done to him. And you see a humility there that just didn’t exist in Seoul.
And so you see, a contrast in character, but that also Lotus this bloated announces to the men of J.
Best Gilead that they are to be valued, that they had a real name strong, but also that the heads of Judah,
the house of Judah, had anointed him king over them. But then the reaction Whenever you have power,
whenever you have political power. National power. You have people gravitate to that power who want power for themselves.
There may be someone who is right and righteous in the top position, but people are coming up trying to get close to that person because they want power and they want influence.
And Adler is going to be one of those. Joe Ad is going to be that a friction to David.
We’re going to figure that out over time, we’re gonna have that pointed out to us. And ultimately,
Joe ABS Jobs. Desire for Power will lead him to even go against David and attempt to usurp the throne through one of David’s son’s,
and he’ll get himself killed. But the reality lose Adler is going to be that in the house of Saul,
he is going to be that one who rejects David and attempts to set up the king that he wants,
Verse eight says. But Adler, the son of nerve commander Cao’s army, took dish the chef, the son of soul,
and bought him over to make a name and made him king over Gilead over the ash rights over the Jezreel over Jezreel over he film over Benjamin and over all,
Israel, the very first significant division and the Kingdom of Israel happens right here. It’s going to be divided.
It’s going to be repaired. But it’s not going to take very many years, and it’s going to be divided permanently under Jeroboam and readable.
So Adler sees that Judah has anointed David as their king, and he says, Well, they’re still a son of so So he goes and takes.
I’m not going to get his name right if I don’t look at it, he goes and takes a chef,
and he anoints him. Now again, back to the point from the fort who gave Abner authority to annoying anybody king in Israel,
nobody did. So how is it that Abner’s able to anoint a king in Israel? Because nobody stopped him from doing it?
Because nobody fought? You know what? God never gave him that authority and stood up and said admin,
Why don’t you sit down and be quiet? Why don’t you get in line behind God? This reality is that you’re going to see this happen over and over and over again,
and God told him it would happen. You go back and you read the words that God gave the sailor to give the king or give to the people and tell the people how this is gonna turn out for them.
It’s not gonna be red, but you asked for it and you’re gonna get it. And so, throughout this period of history is you look at these passages as you read these things don’t just read.
You know what? This king reigned and then died and his son rain. And then they killed her son and somebody else rating his Don’t just read that.
Wait a minute. Why? What is it? That’s fun. The memory wrong at the foundation of this nation that they are refusing to turn to God for the answer.
So Amna rises up. Adler is the captain of Sorrows Army. OK, so you’ve got the King dies and the capital of the Army.
Why Abner didn’t die in battle was Abner at the same battle soul and all the sons died at I don’t know.
We’re not told the police that I’m aware of, but Abner, who’s not dead Abner makes it out of the battle.
Whatever happened, happened. Adler’s alive and so add Lu takes issue chef and anoint him king. Now what you get in this picture of issues Chef is he’s not a strong person.
He’s not Warren who’s taking charge. He’s not one who’s declaring himself king. He’s one who’s a pawn of Abner.
He’s a rowing someone who’s stronger than him to take him and use him. We’ve gotta be careful about that.
We will be careful in our little lives that we don’t allow someone who has evil intends and evil goals to take us when we’re weak and use us as a pawn for their evil deeds.
Because that can happen. And it happens. Dish the chef and he’s gonna end up ultimately paying the price for that.
So Adler comes and he anoints ish me chef, and he proclaims him king over not just one group of people,
not just one city, but over all Israel. Judah at least had the the recognition to say You know what,
David? We can’t name you King of All Israel, but we can at least not UK Raver Judah ring Speak for ourselves.
Can’t speak for everybody else. Abner does know I speak for everybody and he just anoints issue Chef as king over all Israel.
So then notice what happens that time. David was king in Hebron, over the house of Judah. For seven years and six months now,
Abner, the scent of nerve and the servants of issues. Chef, the son of Saul went out from a name to give you and Joe Abbas our lives.
Every Lina and the servant of David went out and met them by the pool of Libyan. So they sat down one on one side of the pool and one on the other side of the pool.
Then Abner said to Joe and let the young men now rise and compete before us. And Joe AB said,
Let them rise. Okay, so the army has come out and they meet at this pool and runs on one side of the pool ones on the other.
And you can just picture Joe Abs sitting over here. Adler sitting over there, and they’re sending messengers back and forth talking How How’s this gonna work out?
Well, let’s just let’s just put 12 men out there. No reason. All of us have to die.
Right foot 12 men out there. This is Go back to the days of Goliath. Goliath comes out.
Whoever wins in battle between me and the soldier of Israel, the other one will serve the other. Okay,
that’s the same negotiation that’s going on here. This case were about 12 men. So each side sends out 12 men and they’re going to do battle.
Is that notice what happens? So they arose and went over by number 12 from Benjamin. Followers of ish bish F percent of soul and 12 from the servants of David and each one grass tres opponent by the head and thrust his sword in his opponent sides.
So they fell down together. Therefore, that place was called the Field of Sharp Swords, which is in Gibby in.
So 24 men go out at the end Number main. Everybody loses. Yeah, it was kind of prophetic.
You go under war against your own brethren, and guess what? Everybody loses. But they won’t heed the warning.
So the 12 men go out. Nobody wins. Nobody’s conclude. Nobody’s victorious. Everybody’s dead. Well,
I didn’t solve anything, so I guess we’ll just have to do battle. And so the battle will begin.
But what a point. Something out here who are the main participants alone? The 12 that are sent out?
Who are the ones that represent Abner Side? They’re from What TRIBE? Benjamin. Why Benjamin? So that was Saul’s TRIBE.
This is primarily a disagreement between Judah. Oh, wait, who’s a descendant from Judah, David and Benjamin?
This is an argument. This is a battle about who’s going to be the TRIBE that’s in charge. Is it gonna be Benjamin?
Or is it going to be Judah? So they’re vying for influence. They’re vying for power, and ultimately it’s not.
To be fair, it’s not David doing it. It’s Joe AB doing it. It’s Abner doing it.
It’s the Army’s vying for influence and for power, but I don’t notice what happens. Uh, so there’s a very fierce battle for 17.
That day, an admiral in the Men of Israel were beaten before the servants of David. Now the three sons of Zechariah were there,
Joe ab and Abby shy and a suhel. An ace a hell was as Frieda afoot as a wild was l.
So it’s a hell. A team me as hell pursued Abner, and in going he did not turn to the right or to the left from following Abner.
Then add Luke behind him and said Are you s a hell. And he answered, I am. And Adler said to him,
Turn assigned to your right hand order. You left, Lay hold on one of the young men and take his armor for yourself.
But as hell would not turn aside from following him. So Abner said again, the ass hell, turn aside from following me.
Why should I strike you to the ground? How them could I face your brother Joe ab So jobs younger brother,
by all indications that it appears as though Joe Abs, the oldest and s hell’s the youngest jobs. Brother is fast,
and I don’t know if all of them on foot or not. There seems to be some indication that Abner,
who’s not on foot and a suhel, is but a cell is still keeping up with it. Okay,
that seems to be that. That’s what I’m getting out of it because he’s told. Listen, it puts the alarm on.
It seems as though you have this young land who’s come to the battle. Maybe in the same way David would have back when he was younger.
David shows up before Goliath. And whose arm? Where is he wearing? None. He’s not wearing his.
He’s not because he doesn’t have any. He’s not a soldier and he doesn’t get any. He brings a sling.
They’re stone. Well, that seems to be the way this young man has come to battle. He’s come not prepared in armor,
not tested, not with the or more of the soldier. And the king of the avenue says Tow.
Er, let me give you a piece of advice. You’ve gotta imagine this is happening as they’re going a cell’s freeing.
Seeing the Abner’s four yen says chasing him and Abby was like, Find somebody and puts an arm on or I’m gonna kill you and then your brother’s gonna be mad.
Well, he’s going to refuse. He won’t turn to the right hand and left. He’s got Adler in his sights,
and he’s not letting him go, so they’ll notice what happens. However, he refused to turn the side Verse 23.
Therefore, Abner struck him in the stomach with the blunt end of the spear so that the spear came out of his back and he fell down there and died on the spot.
So it was that as many as came to the place where a suhel fell down and dined stood still.
I imagine they didn’t stand still is quite a sight to see. Here’s a man that’s been run through with the blunt end of the spear,
is it? He wasn’t killed with a point he wasn’t killed with Sharpened. He was killed with the flat end.
There’s a lot of passages in the Book of Proverbs about fools who won’t heed wisdom and instruction. And it seems like maybe he’s a hell was one of those.
He had all the physical prowess to chase down Abner and know of this, none of the sense to do what would have protected his own life.
And he loses his life easily against Abner. So Abner will take a sales life. Joe have an ambush.
I also pursued Abner and the sun was going down when they came to a hill of them, huh?
Which is before gear by the Road of Baroda. Listen, Gideon now the Children of Benjamin gathered together behind Abner and came over,
became a unit, and they took their stand on top of a hill Then Admiral called down, Called to Joe Abin said,
Shall the sword devour forever? Do you know? Do you not know that it will be bitter in the latter end?
How long will it be then? Until you tell the people to return from pursuing their brethren? This is an interesting statement from Abner After Finally has someone defending him.
He finally has a unit behind him. The men of Benjamin form up Now they’ve got the high ground.
And now Adler’s willing to say, you know what all this fighting is going to turn out bad. My And this is your opinion now,
after you’ve been chased. Now, after you do battle by the path. Now, after all of these things that happened on Lee now and you’re safe,
your opinion is this is gonna turn out portly for everybody. Why don’t you go home, Joe ab an elderly woman.
That’s what’s going to happen. But the audacity of here is the man who’s quite literally divided the kingdom who has caused the kingdom to be invited by raising a piss poor chef as the king over Israel.
And he’s the one who says, Oh, by the way, that’s not good for brethren to fight against one another.
Yeah, it’s not for you because you lost. But yet the statement will turn Joe Webb, Verse 27 Joe AB said,
As God lives into, unless you had spoken showing them by morning, all the people would have given up pursuing the Brethren.
So Joe at blue trumpet and all the people stood still and did not pursue Israel anymore. Nor did they fight anymore.
Then, Admiral is Men went on all that night through playing a crossed over the Jordan and went through all breath throne.
And they came to make a name. So Jo have returned from pursuing Abner and Rome. He had gathered all the people together there were missing of David servants,
19 men and a Suhel. How many died in the first first round when they said, Hey, send out men and and we’ll see who wins.
12. How many died in the whole battle? 20. So, Sojo, I’ve only lost eight more men in the entire battle the entire day in all through the chase of Abner.
But that will be true for Abner. But the servants have dated, uh, had struck down of Benjamin and Adler’s men,
360 men who died. Then they took up a suhel and buried him in his father’s tomb, which was in Bethlehem,
and Joe AB and his men went all night and they came to Hebrew in it. But now you really shouldn’t separate Chapter three routes one from the end of Chapter two.
Now there was a long war between the House of Saul and the House of David, but David grew stronger and stronger,
and the House of Saul grew weaker and weaker. So this division that’s going to come as a result of power being sought after and striving to be kept by Adler by the House of Saul will cause an ongoing war in the land of Israel.
And ultimately, David’s side will become victorious. They will continue to remain stronger and stronger. Saul’s house will continue to Duane until it is almost gone.
Okay, let’s go over the questions, and then we’ll close After King Saul died. What town did God instruct David to go to?
Hey Brit, After King Saul’s death, what position did the men of Judah give David King of Judah Abner,
commander of Sands Army made Saul’s son Ishmael, chef Blank of All Israel thing. David was King of Judah.
A two years be seven and 1/2 year. See 25 years or D 40 years. Be seven and 1/2 years.
Verse 11. Now how long will he rein in Totality? 40 years. But his reign over Judah separately is going to be seven and 1/2 years.
The leader of David’s Army in Judah was a Abner being free him See Job or DSP Chef. See Joe AB in the contest between the 12 minute Abner and the 12 minute Joe AB,
who won neither. This is in the contest. 12 men against 12 men, the insurers, they all died A to the end of the day.

We rise up to newness of life, So remission of sins and newness of life. Two very good answers for that questions there comments or questions that we close.
If not you’re dismissed. Thank you for your attention.

good morning. It is great to be home, and it is always a joy to be back with you. Sometimes you write sermons and then you go back to them some time later, sometimes years later, and you look at what you wrote. You know, everybody that’s true. But I missed the point. Probably the first year that I was preaching. I wrote a sermon on Psalms 1 39 If only we believe everything I wrote in that sermon was true. Entitled it the Our Missions of God in Psalms 1 39 verses one through six,
The Psalmist writer describes what God knows. He describes God’s knowledge in the best terms that human humanity can can conjure and truly got his arm nish it that is all knowing God knows beyond what we know. He sees beyond what we see, and he knows this from beginning to end. Jesus described his existence when he spoke to those Jews in relationship to Abraham and said before Abraham Rose, I am not I waas not I will be. I am. He has existed and has always existed and will always exist.
There is no point in time where you look it God. And you go well before that? No, there is nothing before that. Well after there was nothing after that. And God, not bound by time, understands us in our being bound by time in ways that we simply cannot comprehend. He knows are sitting down and are rising up. He knows what we will do, how we will live. He knows the powers that we can take the paths that we will take. He knows our thoughts before we think them.
The Psalmist writer says he knows our words before we speak them. And so as I rode that sermon, I was thinking about what God knows and the on missions of God and truly there is a point to be made from someone 39 concerning the ah missions of God, and certainly God is Amish int. But in writing a sermon about the ah missions of God, I missed the point of someone 39 and it’s not because it’s not clear. It’s because I was looking for something else. And we do that sometimes with Scripture,
we come to a passage looking for something in the passage. Instead of looking for what’s in the passage we bring to our interpretation what we want the passage to stay to say, instead of allowing the passage to speak for itself. Sometimes we do so when we don’t do damage to the scripture and we learn things and let we don’t fully grasp what’s there. Someone 39 Verse one. Oh Lord, you have searched me and known me. This sewn declares the on the presence of God. God is everywhere. It declares the our missions of God.
God knows everything. It declares the power in the mind of God. Daughter is all powerful. It declares all of those things. The Psalmist writer isn’t writing an academic description of God. Somis writer is declaring God, you know me and the Psalmist writer is declaring his relationship to the God who is. We don’t have a relationship to a God who is not. We do not have a relationship to a God who might be. We have a relationship to a God who is and who is there in every aspect of our lives,
who knows are sitting down and are rising up. We don’t go through a day except we know that he knows us. As we discussed in the Bible class this morning as we discussed this passage. That’s a fearful thing for a wicked person. For an individual bent on doing iniquity. Bent are living his own way, bent on serving himself instead of God. It’s not a wonderful being. A bit of news to say God knows you, he knows you From the end of your day to the beginning He knows what you will do And he knows what you will think And he knows what you will say.
And that is not a calming fought for wicked individual before righteous one for a person of God For one who loves the Lord with always hard with all his mind, with all his strength. Such an idea has great strength and great hope. Lord Jehovah. Yeah, way the self existing What the I am that I am. You have searched me and known me. You know, my sitting down in my rising up You understand? My thoughts are far off And that’s where I want to spend our time this morning in a series of westerns were going to consider the idea.
God knows me and we’re gonna begin with our thoughts The soonest writer says. You understand my thoughts, you discern my thoughts. The S V says You comprehend my thoughts of fall. You know what I’m thinking before I think it. You know what I’m wanting before I want it. Jesus will describe to his disciples as he tells them concerning prayer as he speaks to them concerning their relationship with the father. He says, Ask and it shall be given to you. Seek and ye shall find knock and the door shall be opened unto you.
And he describes a child relationship with the father. He says, What child asks of his father a slice of bread and receives a stone? What child asks for a fish and receives a soap in’t? If you being are three, I know how to do good things to your Children. How much more does the father know what you need before you even ask it? But Jesus Point is God still wants you to ask. He knows you. He knows you more than you know you, but he still wants a relationship with you.
God! Oh Lord, you searched me out. God, Ron’s a relationship with you. He wants a relationship with your thoughts for Samuel, Chapter 16 In first, same attractor 16 God send Samuel his profit to go anoint a new king. He wants a king who will serve him, who will obey him because in first aid, which after 15 so said, I’ve done everything that God commanded me to do everything he told me to do. I’ve obeyed. And Samuel said, What’s the bloom of the sheep that I hear?
Why’s kilo bag standing here? You were told to go and to annihilate that people and to destroy everything that I have. You were told to bring about the judgment on them that God had pronounced all the way back in the Book of Exodus and you didn’t do it. And yet you claim to. So in Chapter 16 God send Samuel, you go and find and anoint a new king and saying they will go to the house of Jesse and he will see their David’s older brothers. You go to the house of Jesse,
Jesse will bring your sons before Samuel and the very 1st 1 looks like a king. That’s what a king looks like.
Remember, that was the description of Soul. He was hand and shoulders about all the people. He looked like a king,
but his heart wasn’t. Sam Will believes. He’s found the right one in Jessie’s older son. And God tells Samuel no and the next one?
No. Then the next one. No, wait a minute. Jesse, Do you have any more sons?
Well, yes, the youngest one. He’s out tending the flock Send for him. But in first stable Chapter 16 we find this statement made by God to Samuel as he is helping Samuel to understand why he’s not choosing the way Samuel is in first.
Same a chapter 16 and in verse seven, we read. But the Lord said the Samuel do not look at his appearance or his physical stature because I have refused him.
That says, I’m a who I want. I know neither one is that I’ve chosen, and he’s not it.
He might look like a king, but he’s not lying, for the Lord does not see as man sees for.
Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. We’re related to read of David’s brothers who were soldiers,
and they will be with you or me of God. They will be standing across the valley from the Philistine Sze and one philistine would come out.
His name was Goliath and he would stand before the armies of the Lord and he would blast team their guard and he would declare to them You send out a man and we will do battle.
And if we win, you serve us. But if you win, will serve you. But Goliath was a giant.
When you look at the outward man, when you look at the statue of Goliath he’s an intimidating man,
David Young man that he waas sent by his father to go check on his brothers to bring supplies to them.
And he hears the words of the philistine and he can’t understand why the army of God isn’t doing anything about it.
He can’t understand why. So the king, the leader of the army of God, isn’t going out to meet this uncircumcised philistine because in David’s mind,
he knows God is the run who will defeat Goliath and not the soldier. And so, David, a man who thinks the world God does goes out to meet him,
not with armor, not with m battlements, not with great swords. and protection, but with five stones.
God knows me, David writes. You searched me out. You know, my Stanley happen by sitting down.
You know what I think before I think it acts. Chapter one as Jesus has ascended back in the heaven and the apostles are preparing to preach the gospel.
They’ve been told by Jesus. You remain in Jerusalem until power comes from on high. And while they’re there and they’re gathered together,
they appoint one to take the place of Judas. They appoint Warren to serve in the place as an apostle who will take the place of the one who betrayed Christ.
And as they’re seeking to appoint this individual, they do not take it upon themselves to determine who it is they do set forth of criteria.
Peter speaks up and says it has to be one who’s been with us from the beginning. It has to be one who walked with Jesus.
It has to be. One who saw him while he was here has to be well, in whom is the spirit of God.
But it comes down to two individuals in acts. Chapter one, we raid around Verse 21 therefore of these men who have accompanying accompanying us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out of oneness,
beginning from the baptism of John to that day when he was taken up from us. Rum of these must become a witnessed rumors of his resurrection.
And they proposed to Joseph called bar service, whose surname who was surname, Justice, and Mathias. And they prayed and said you were a Lord who knows the hearts overall show which of these you to you.
Which of these two you have chosen? Isn’t it interesting? They examined their deeds, examine their life.
They examine their faithful Mr Christ, they saw on their actions. And they said we can’t choose between the two based on actions.
But God, you love the heart. When you can’t determine the life based upon the actions, God still knows the heart.
And it was the heart that qualified Mathias over Barsa bus. I don’t know anything about bar service. I don’t know that he had a problem in his heart.
But the apostles knew God could choose the right one, and he knew that it was in their hearts in their thoughts in their mind that the difference would be made.
When the apostles went out, it will make taut. And when they were persecuted and when they were imprisoned in just a few chapters,
they would come away rejoicing that they were counted wrongly to suffer with Christ. How is it that people who are enduring pain and affliction and anguish and persecution can say,
what a joy to have gone through, that it’s not because they think like most of us, it’s because they think differently than most of us.
Most of us go through life and will be struggling where we have difficulties when people do harmful to us.
Hopeful things to us were made mistreated, as we think we need to get them back. For that,
I need to treat them the way they treated me. The apostles prayed to God and thanked him. What is that?
But an expression of the thoughts and heart that was in them. God knows me, he knows my thoughts.
He knows my heart, and he knows yours, too. As we consider that idea, we would understand that.
Jesus says the thoughts determined the person, not the other way around. Is that right? I mean,
no I I controlled my fault. That’s true. But your thoughts determine who you are. Totally Matthew,
Chapter 15 Jesus will be confronted by the Ferris ease from Jerusalem. They will come and they will question him.
Why don’t your disciples wash their hands hands according to the traditions of the elders? Why no, they cleanse themselves before they eat.
Jesus will confront then concerning their traditions and how their traditions opposed the very word of God and transgress the word of God.
They will call them hypocrites. And then Jesus will separate himself from them, having record of them. It’s not what goes into the body that the files a man.
But what comes out? That the files A man we read in verse 10 of Matthew, Chapter 15.
We’ll make hope. When he called the multitude to himself. He said to them here and understand, not well goes into the mouth of files.
A man. But what comes out of the mouth that the files a man, then his disciples came and said to him,
Do you know that the fair seas were offended when they heard this saying, Jesus, do you not understand that when you called them hypocrites when you called them those who were guilty of the same thing.
That the people as a cz day. We’re guilty of that. They were offended by that. Jesus replied.
Every plant which my heavenly father is not planning, will be uprooted. Let them alone. They’re blind leaders of the blind.
And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into the ditch. Then Peter answered and said to him,
Explain this parable to us. So Jesus said, Are you still also without understanding? Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and has eliminated the bottling process of eating food?
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart. And these are they defile a man for out of the heart proceed.
Evil thoughts, murders, adulterous fornication steps, false witnesses, blasphemies. These are the things which are rich.
The file a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not. The file A man Jesus says your heart produces who you are and what you do.
You look a individual. He’s committed murder. You reveal individual who’s blushing. You look at an individual is doing evil to his fellow man.
And you know it’s not just his actions, it is his heart. That is the problem. It is in his mind where that evil resides that causes those actions to come to pass.
Jesus says it is the heart that determines the man, not the other way around. Seven. God knows me,
God knows what I think Before I ever think it God knows who I am in my heart whether anyone sees it or not,
that might be a scary thing for us. But for the sole miss writer, it was a very interesting thing because if we turn back to someone 19 he introduces this psalm about God knowing him Where have you searched me?
And I have known me You know, my sitting down in my rising love You understand my thoughts of far off You come for him My half to my lying down You’re a corner with all my ways For there is not a word on my tongue But behold the Lord you knew it all together But he closes the psalm with search me Wait a minute.
I thought I thought you already said he did. I thought you said he searched for you in the past.
Search me Oh God, and know my heart Well, we come to a relationship with God. We’re all right with God.
When we love God love one another When we serve him with our whole heart it is non a fearful thing to say.
God examined me, Test me, try me and know me he says. Search me Oh God and know my heart trying move And no,
my anxieties. This all these writers not saying I never struggle. He’s not saying I have nothing to fear.
He’s not saying I don’t have difficulties. He’s saying, God, when you know me, you can help.
May overcome May and see if there’s any wicked way in me and lead me in the war of everlasting total of problems.
Chapter three. They did, son. Well, right to David’s grandson. Verse five. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean Not on your own understanding in all your ways.
Acknowledge him and he will direct your pass. Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
Salomon learned from his father. That is your thoughts. The direct your path unless you turn your thoughts over the God and let him direct your path.
Let’s examine that idea in three passages as we close second Corinthians Chapter 10 Paul writes to the church in Corinth,
and, as he is writing to them, this deeply emotional book, This is probably one of the most emotional letters that exists in all the New Testament as a personal relationship that Paul had with this church.
It Corrine, he says. Chapter 10 in Verse one. Now I, Paul myself, I’m pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ who in presence and lonely among you but being absent and burned toward you.
What’s he saying? He’s saying, I’m writing to you with boldness so that when I can come to you in person,
I can come to you in humility in meekness because we have unification and unity and oneness and fellowship in Christ.
So I write to you and boldness to correct the problems before I get there. He says first, too.
But I beg you that when I am president, I may not be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some who think of us as if we walked according to the flash.
For though we walk in the flash, we do not war according to the flash, Paul says. Weird.
In this life we walk in this life. We deal with the anguish and the difficulty and the pain and the temptation in the soil of this life.
But we don’t walk according to flesh. Those four for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
Paul says. We don’t walk after the flesh because our weapons in this world fair aren’t material. They’re not fleshly.
They’re not carnal Christians don’t own themselves with swords and staves and guns and bombs because they’re warfare isn’t in the flesh,
he says. Verse tanto verse five, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, he says. Our weapons aren’t call all raw fairs and choral warfare is fighting.
Excuse me. A battle of nudge or warfare is fighting a battle of the one who doesn’t know God bringing his thoughts captive to Christ Asians.
Chapter six describes the word of God as the sword of the spirit. Hebrews speaks concerning the word of God being that which that can cut away the sin from our lives.
Paul says our warfare, our battle is against spirituals, things with a spiritual sword, which is the word of God.
So if we’re going to bring our thoughts captive to Christ, if we’re going to allow God to be able to search our hearts,
it is because we have a heart. That fire is God. Turn the Philippians Chapter four Philippians chapter forward.
We often read Verse eight about the things that we can can and should think on. But we just read Verse eight.
We missed the force of verse eight. Go back to verse five. Let your gentleness be known to all men.
The Lord is at hand. The words the Lord is at hand is to say God is very near and everything that follows that phrase is because God is very near.
And what is it that the service in someone 39 was trying to convey? Wherever I go God, you are there.
Whatever. I think you know me. Whatever I say, you know it already. The Lord is at hand.
Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving that you request be made known to God,
he says, Because God is there. Be gentle because God is their prey. Ask for what you need and the peace of God.
Verse seven, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus when your gentleness is known and when you understand the God is there and when you pray instead of worrying,
then God’s peace can be with you and can guard your heart. Then he says, Verse eight. Finally,
brother and whatever things are true. Whatever things are noble, whatever things are just whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely. Whatever things were, good report. If there’s any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy,
meditate on these things. Think about these things, make your heart your thoughts, your mind about these things.
But he doesn’t stop there. The things which you have learned and received and heard and saw in me when he tells them thing on things that are lovely,
think of things that are praiseworthy thing on things that are true. Think on things that are of good report,
think on these things that are our virtue Then, he says, and you saw be doing its things that you have seen in me.
These do and the god of peace will be with you. So if we put second really, is she?
After 10 verses ones we find together with Philippians, Chapter four versus 5 to 9, we find that God has a weapon that is in our hands to control our thoughts.
And it’s his word. And we think on his word and his deeds and his actions and the things that he has done through even the examples of those who are righteous before us.
And then we do those things and his peace protects us, but then turned the first John Chapter two,
first John, Chapter two, beginning in verse 12 John writes as the elder, the elder in the church,
the old man, Maybe at this time the only apostle still alive. We don’t know, and he says,
I write to you verse 12 of Chapter two little Children, because your sins are forgiven you for his namesake.
I write to you little Children because your sins are forgiven. He’s not writing the little toddlers spiritually. Children.
I write to you because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake. I like to your father’s because you have known him.
Who is from the beginning. I write to you young men because you have overcome Rick. It one I write to you little Children because you have known the father I have written to your father’s because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, Young Lynn, because you are strong in the world of God abides in you and you have overcome the wicked one.
He reassures them over and over and over again. I’m writing to you because you know God because of your relationship with him.
And then he says, Do not love the world because you’re forgiven because you’ve overcome because the word of God abides in you because you are who you are.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world of love, of the father is not in him,
for all of it is in the world. The rest of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is not of the father but is off the world and the world is passing away and the lust of it.
But hey, who does the will of God abides forever. Jesus said, not everyone that says to me,
Lord Lord, she’ll enter the kingdom of Heaven. But he who does the will of my father, who is in heaven.
But it begins with the thoughts we have the ability to overcome. We have the ability to control our thoughts.
We have the ability to set our minds on right things and from those things produce a right life where we can say to God,
search me and try me. But we can also know this, that if we are faithful to him and obedient to him and abide in his word and do what he says and think on what he says to think on,
that we can know him because here it is. Full circle Psalms 1 39 says God, you searched for me and you know me God search me and know me.
And in First John, Chapter two and in verse three, John writes Now by this we know that we know him.
John How is it that we know that we know him? Is it because we have a feeling in our heart note?
Is it because we have an emotional attachment? Oh God, no. Is it because we just got this assurance and clarity of mind that we’ve done everything that he said?
No, John, how do we know that we never heal now by verse? We know that we know him if we keep Hiss Commandments.
He who says I know him and does not keep his commandments is a liar. And the truth is not in him but whoever keeps his word true.
The love of God is perfected in him by this. We know that we are in him. So as we examine our thoughts and our relationship with God,
do we remember that God knows us whether we’re righteous or not? God knows us here knows our thoughts.
He knows our ways. He knows our speech. He knows our deeds. The question is, do we know him?
Have we kept his commandments? But it begins in the heart. It begins with turning our life over to him and obeying him,
getting rid of self and serving God. But to do that, you have to die. You can’t live anymore.
If God’s going to live in you, you have to die. You have to die with Christ Galatians,
Chapter three You have to be crucified with Christ. Roman’s Chapter six. You have to die with him and you have to be buried with him.
Romans, Chapter six. But if you’ve done that, you can be raised with him in newness of life.
And that happens in baptism. Roman’s chapter six verses three and four. When were baptized with him we rise again to walk in newness of life.
And not before then and hereby do we know that we know him. If we keep hiss Commandments. If you’re here this morning,
you’re outside the body of Christ. Don’t delay come to a relationship with God. Know him as he knows you make your life right with him.
If you have a need, any need, why not come forward now is we stay in and as we sing yeah,
good morning. It is great to be home, and it is always a joy to be back with you. Sometimes you write sermons and then you go back to them some time later, sometimes years later, and you look at what you wrote. You know, everybody that’s true.
And that is not a calming fought for wicked individual before righteous one for a person of God For one who loves the Lord with always hard with all his mind, with all his strength Such an idea has great strength and great hope Lord Jehovah Yeah, way the self existing What the I am that I am. You have searched me and known me. You know, my sitting down in my rising up You understand? My thoughts are far off and that’s where I want to spend our time this morning in a series of westerns were going to consider the idea.
God knows me and we’re gonna begin with our thoughts. The soonest writer says you understand my thoughts, you discern my thoughts. The S V says you compra him my thoughts of fall. You know what I’m thinking before I think it. You know what I’m wanting. Before I want it. Jesus will describe to his disciples as he tells them concerning prayer. As he speaks to them concerning their relationship with the father. He says, Ask and it should be given to you. Seek and ye shall find knock and the door shall be opened unto you.
And he describes a child relationship with the father. He says What child asks of his father a slice of bread and receives a stone? What child asks for a fish and receives a soap in’t? If you being our theory, I know how to do good things to your Children. How much more does the father know What you need before you even ask it? But Jesus Point is God still wants you to ask. He knows you. He knows you more than you know you. But he still runs a relationship with you.
God, A Lord. You searched me out. God runs a relationship with you. He wants a relationship with your thoughts, Samuel Chapter 16. In first same attractor 16 God send Samuel his profit to go anoint a new king. He wants a king who will serve him, who will obey him because in first aid, which after 15 so said, I’ve done everything that God commanded me to do everything he told me to do. I’ve obeyed. And Samuel said, What’s the bloom of the sheep that I hear wise kilo bag standing here You were told to go and to annihilate that people and to destroy everything that I have.
You were told to bring about the judgment on them that God had pronounced all the way back in the Book of Exodus and you didn’t do it. And yet you claim to. So in Chapter 16 God send Samuel, you go and find and anoint a new king and saying they will go to the house of Jesse and he will see their David’s older brothers go to the house of Jesse. Jesse will bring your sons before Samuel, and the very first one looks like a king. That’s what a king looks like.
Remember, that was the description of Soul. He was hand and shoulders about all the people. He looked like a king,
but his heart wasn’t. Sam Will believes he’s found the right one in Jessie’s older son, and God tells Samuel no and the next one?
No. Then the next one. No, wait a minute. Jesse, Do you have any more sons?
Well, yes, the youngest one. He’s out tending the flock Send for him. But in First Sailor,
Chapter 16 we find this statement made by God to Samuel as he is helping Samuel to understand why he’s not choosing the way Samuel is in first.
Same a chapter 16 and in verse seven, we read. But the Lord said the Samuel do not look at his appearance or his physical stature because I have refused him.
That says, I’m a who I want. I know neither one is that I’ve chosen, and he’s not it.
He might look like a king, but he’s not lying for the Lord does not see as man sees for.
Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. We’re related to read of David’s brothers,
who soldiers and they will be with you or me of God. They will be standing across the valley from the Philistine Sze and one philistine would come out.
His name was Goliath and he would stand before the armies of the Lord and he would blast team their guard and he would declare to them You send out in man and we will do battle.
So the king, the leader of the only of God, isn’t going out to meet this uncircumcised philistine because in David’s mind,
he knows God is the run who will defeat Goliath and not the soldier. And so, David, a man who thinks the world God does,
goes out to meet him, not with armor, not with m battlements, not with great swords and protection,
but was five stones. God knows me, David writes. You searched me out. You know my Stanley wrapping my sitting down.
You know what I think before I think it action after one, as Jesus has ascended back in the heaven and the apostles are preparing to preach the gospel they’ve been told by Jesus.
You remain in Jerusalem until power comes from on high. And while they are there and they’re gathered together,
they appoint Warren to take the place of Judas. They appoint warm to serve in the place as an apostle who will take the place of the one who betrayed Christ.
And as they’re seeking to appoint this individual, they do not take it upon themselves to determine who it is they do set forth of criteria.
Peter speaks up and says it has to be one who’s been with us from the beginning. It has to be one who walked with Jesus.
It has to be one who saw him while he was here has to be well, in whom is the spirit of God.
But it comes down to two individuals in acts. Chapter one, we raid around verse 21. Therefore of these men who have accompanying accompanying us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out of oneness,
beginning from the baptism of John to that day when he was taken up from us. Warm of these must become a witness.
Rumors of his resurrection. And they proposed to Joseph called bar service, whose surname who was surname, Justice and Mathias.
But the apostles knew God could choose the right one, and he knew that it was in their hearts in their thoughts in their mind that the difference would be made When the apostles went out,
it will make taut. And when they were persecuted and when they were imprisoned in just a few chapters,
they would come away rejoicing that they were counted wrong. Me to suffer with Christ.
So, you know, I I controlled my fault That’s true,
but your thoughts determine who you are. Totally. Matthew. Chapter 15 Jesus will be confronted by the Ferris ease from Jerusalem.
They will come and they will question him. Rhino, your disciples wash their hands hands according to the traditions of the elders.
Why no, they cleanse themselves before they eat. Jesus will confront them concerning their traditions and how their traditions opposed the very word of God and transgress the word of God.
They will call them hypocrites. And then Jesus will separate himself from them having the court of them. It’s not what goes into the body that the files a man.
But what comes out that the files a man we read in verse 10 of Matthew Chapter 15 will make hope.
When he called the multitude to himself. He said to them here and understand, not well goes into the mouth of files,
man. But what comes out of the mouth that the files a man, then his disciples came and said to him,
Do you know that the fair seas were offended when they heard this saying, Jesus, do you not understand that when you called them hypocrites when you call them those who were guilty of the same thing.
That the people as they used a word guilty of that they were offended by that. Jesus replied. Every plant which my heavenly father is not planning,
will be uprooted. Let them alone. They’re blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind,
both will fall into the ditch. Then Peter answered and said to him, Explain this parable to us.
So Jesus said, Are you still also without understanding? Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and has eliminated the bottle in process of eating food?
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and these are they defile a man for out of the heart proceed.
Evil thoughts, murders, adulterous fornication steps, false witnesses, blasphemies. These are the things which are rich to file a man,
but to eat with unwashed hands does not. The file A man Jesus says your heart produces who you are and what you do.
You reckon individual who’s committed murder, you reveal individual who’s blushing.
Search me Oh God and know my heart Well, we come to a relationship with God. We’re all right with God.
When we love God love one another when we serve him with our whole heart it is non a fearful thing to say.
God examined me, Test me, try me and know me, he says. Search me Oh God and know my heart trying move and no,
my anxieties. This all these writers not saying I never struggle. He’s not saying I have nothing to fear.
He’s not saying I don’t have difficulties. He’s saying, God, when you know me, you can help.
May overcome May and see if there’s any wicked way in me and lead me in the War of Everlasting Turn The problems.
Chapter three They did, son. Well, right to David’s grandson. Verse five. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean.
Not on your own understanding in all your ways. Acknowledge him and he will direct your pass. Do not be wise in your own eyes.
Fear the Lord and depart from evil. Salomon learned from his father. That is your thoughts. The direct your path unless you turn your thoughts over the God and let him direct your path.
Let’s examine that idea in three passages as we close second Corinthians Chapter 10 Paul writes to the church in Corinth,
and, as he is writing to them, this deeply emotional book. This is probably one of the most emotional letters that exists in all the New Testament as a personal relationship that Paul had with this church.
It Corrine, he says. Chapter 10 in Verse one. Now I, Paul myself, I’m pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ who in presence and lonely among you but being absent and burned toward you.
What’s he saying? He’s saying, I’m writing to you with boldness so that when I can come to you in person,
I can come to you and humility in meekness because we have unification and unity and oneness and fellowship in Christ.
Our weapons aren’t call all raw fairs and coral warfare is fighting.
Excuse me. A battle of nudge or warfare is fighting a battle of the one who doesn’t know God,
bringing his thoughts captive to Christ Asians. Chapter six describes the word of God as the sword of the spirit.
Hebrews speaks concerning the word of God being that which that can cut away the sin from our lives. Paul says our warfare,
our battle is against spirituals, things with a spiritual sword, which is the word of God. So if we’re going to bring our thoughts captive to Christ,
if we’re going to allow God to be able to search our hearts, it is because we have a heart.
That fire is God. Turn the Philippians Chapter four Philippians chapter forward. We often read Verse eight about the things that we can can and should think on.
But we just read verse eight. We miss the force of verse eight. Go back to verse five.
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Rewards the Lord is at hand is to say God is very near and everything that follows that phrase is because God is very near.
And what is it that the soulless in someone 39 was trying to convey? Wherever I go God, you are there.
Whatever. I think you know me. Whatever I say. You know it already. The Lord is at hand.
Be anxious for nothing. but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving that you request be made known to God,
he says, Because God is there. Be gentle because God is their prey. Ask for what you need and the peace of God.
Verse seven, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus when your gentleness is known,
and when you understand that God is there and when you pray instead of worrying, then God’s peace can be with you and can guard your heart.
Then he says, Verse eight. Finally, brother and whatever things are true. Whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely. Whatever things were. Good report.
If there’s any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things. Think about these things.
Make your heart your thoughts, your mind about these things. But he doesn’t stop there. The things which you have learned and received and heard and saw in me when he tells them think on things that are lovely.
Think on things that are praiseworthy thing on things that are true. Think on things that are of good report.
Think on these things that are our virtue. Then, he says, and you saw be dim. It’s things that you have seen in me.
These do and the god of peace will be with you. So we put second. Really, is she?
After 10 verses, ones were fined together with Philippians, Chapter four versus 5 to 9. We find that God has a weapon that is in our hands to control our thoughts.
And it’s his word. And we think on his word and his deeds and his actions and the things that he has done through even the examples of those who are righteous before us.
And then we do those things and his peace protects us, but then turned the first John Chapter two.
First John, Chapter two beginning and those 12 John writes as the elder, the elder in the church,
the old man. Maybe at this time the only apostle still alive. We don’t know. And he says,
I write to you Verse 12 of Chapter two Little Children, because your sins are forgiven you for his namesake.
I write to you little Children because your sins are forgiven. He’s not writing the little toddlers, spiritual Children.
I write to you because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake. I like to your father’s because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I write to you young men because you have overcome wicked one. I write to you little Children because you have known the father I have written to your father’s because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, Young Lynn, because you are strong in the word of God abides in you and you have overcome the wicked one.
The rest of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is not of the father,
but is off the world and the world is passing away and the lust of it. But hey, who does the will of God abides forever.
Jesus said, not everyone that says to me, Lord Lord, she’ll enter the kingdom of Heaven. But he who does the will of my father,
who is in heaven.
Full circle solves 1 39 says God, you searched for me and you know me,
God search me and know me. And in First John, Chapter two and in verse three, John writes Now by this we know that we know him.
John. How is it that we know that we know him.
God knows us. Who knows our thoughts.
He knows our ways. He knows our speech. He knows our deeds. The question is, do we know him?
Have we kept his commandments? But it begins in the heart. It begins with turning our life over to him and obeying Kim,
getting rid of self and serving God.
Don’t delay come to a relationship with God Know him as he knows you make your life right with him.
If you have a need, any need, why not come forward now is we stay in and as we sing Yeah,
good morning. It is great to be home, and it is always a joy to be back with you. Sometimes you write sermons and then you go back to them some time later, sometimes years later. And you look at what you wrote.
He describes God’s knowledge in the best terms that human humanity can can conjure. And truly, God is our mission that is all knowing God knows beyond what we know. He sees beyond what we see, and he knows this from beginning to end. Jesus described his existence when he spoke to those Jews in relationship to Abraham and said before Abraham Rose, I am not I waas not I will be. I am. He has existed and has always existed and will always exist.
There is no point in time where you look it God and you go well before that? No, there is nothing before that. Well after there was nothing after that. And God, not bound by time, understands us in our being bound by time in ways that we simply cannot comprehend. He knows are sitting down and are rising up. He knows what we will do, how we will live. He knows the paths that we can take, the paths that we will take. He knows our thoughts before we think them.
The Psalmist writer says he knows our words before we speak them. And so as I rode that sermon I was thinking about what God knows and the on missions of God and truly there is a point to be made from someone 39 concerning the ah missions of God, and certainly God is Amish int. But in writing a sermon about the ah missions of God, I missed the point of someone 39 and it’s not because it’s not clear. It’s because I was looking for something else. And we do that sometimes with Scripture,
we come to a passage looking for something in the passage. Instead of looking for what’s in the passage, we bring to our interpretation what we want the passage to stay to say, instead of allowing the passage to speak for itself. Sometimes we do so when we don’t do damage to the scripture and we learn things. And yet we don’t fully grasp what’s there.
Psalmist writer is declaring God, you know me and the Psalmist writer is declaring his relationship to the God who is. We don’t have a relationship to a God who is not. We do not have a relationship to a God who might be. We have a relationship to a God who is and who is there in every aspect of our lives,
who knows are sitting down and are rising up. We don’t go through a day. It suddenly know that he knows us. As we discussed in the Bible class this morning as we discussed this passage. That’s a fearful thing for a wicked person. For an individual bent on doing iniquity. Bent are living his own way, bent on serving himself instead of God. It’s not a wonderful being. God! Oh, Lord, you searched me out. God runs a relationship with you. He wants a relationship with your thoughts. Samuel. Chapter 16 In first Same attractor 16 God send Samuel his profit to go anoint a new king. He wants a king who will serve him, who will obey him because in first aid, which after 15 so said, I’ve done everything that God commanded me to do everything he told me to do. I’ve obeyed. Jesus says the thoughts determined the person, not the other way around, is that right? I mean,
no, I I controlled my fault. That’s true. But your thoughts determine who you are. Totally.
Matthew, Chapter 15 Jesus will be confronted by the Ferris ease from Jerusalem.
And then Jesus will separate himself from them having the cord of them. It’s not what goes into the body that the files a man.
But what comes out that the files a man we read in verse 10 of Matthew Chapter 15 will make hope When he called the multitude to himself.
He said to them here and understand, not well goes into the mouth of files, man. But what comes out of the mouth that the files a man,
then his disciples came and said to him, Do you know that the fair seas were offended when they heard this saying Jesus,
do you not understand that when you called them hypocrites when you call them those who were guilty of the same thing,
that the people as they used a word guilty up, that they were offended by that, Jesus replied.
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart and these are they defile a man for out of the heart proceed.
Evil thoughts, murders, adulterous fornication steps, false witnesses, blasphemies. These are the things which are rich.
The file a man but to eat with unwashed hands does not. The file A man Jesus says your heart produces who you are and what you do.
You reckon individual who’s committed murder? You wriggle individual. Who’s blushing? You look at an individual is doing evil to his fellow man.
And you know, it’s not just his actions, it is his heart. That is the problem. It is in his mind where that evil resides that causes those actions to come to pass.
Jesus says it is the heart that determines the man, not the other way around. Seven. God knows me,
God knows what I think Before I ever think it, God knows who I am in my heart whether anyone sees it or not,
That might be a scary thing for us. But for the sole Miss writer, it was a very interesting thing because if we turn back to someone 19 he introduces this psalm about God knowing him Where have you searched me?
And I have known me You know, my sitting down in my rising love You understand my thoughts of far off You come for him My half to my lying down You’re acquainted with all my ways for there is not a word on my tongue But behold the Lord You knew it all together But he closes the psalm with search me.
Wait a minute. I thought I thought you already said he did. I thought you said he searched for you in the past.
Search me Oh God, and know my heart Well, we come to a relationship with God. We’re all right with God.
When we love God love one another When we serve him with our whole heart it is non a fearful thing to say.
God examined me. Test me, try me and know me he says. Search me Oh God and know my heart trying move.
And no, my anxieties. This all these writers not saying I never struggle. He’s not saying I have nothing to fear.
He’s not saying I don’t have difficulties. He’s saying, God, when you know me, you can help.
May overcome May and see if there’s any wicked way in me and lead me in the well of everlasting turn The problems.
Chapter three. They did, son. Well, right to David’s grandson.
Let’s examine that idea in three passages as we close second Corinthians Chapter 10 Paul writes to the church in Corinth,
and, as he is writing to them, this deeply emotional book, This is probably one of the most emotional letters that exists in all the New Testament as a personal relationship that Paul had with this church.
They’re not carnal Christians don’t own themselves with swords and staves and guns and bombs because they’re warfare isn’t in the flesh,
he says, verse tanto verse five, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, he says. Our weapons aren’t call all raw fairs and Cole warfare is fighting.
Excuse me, A battle of nudge or warfare is fighting a battle of the one who doesn’t know God,
bringing his thoughts captive to Christ lesions.
We missed the force of verse eight. Go back to verse five.
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. The words the Lord is at hand is to say God is very near and everything that follows that phrase is because God is very near.
And what is it that the soulless in someone 39 was trying to convey? Wherever I go God, you are there.
Whatever. I think you know me. Whatever I say, you know it already. the Lord is at hand.
Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving that you request be made known to God,
he says, Because God is there. Be gentle because God is their prey. Ask for what you need and the peace of God.
Whatever things were, good report.
If there’s any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things. Think about these things,
make your heart your thoughts, your mind about these things. But he doesn’t stop there. The things which you have learned and received and heard and saw in me when he tells them thing on things that are lovely,
think of things that are praiseworthy thing on things that are true. Think on things that are of good report,
think on these things that are our virtue. Then, he says, and you saw be dim. It’s things that you have seen in me.
These do and the god of peace will be with you. So we put second. Really, is she?
After 10 verses, ones refined together with Philippians, Chapter four versus 5 to 9, we find that God has a weapon that is in our hands to control our thoughts.
And it’s his word. And we think on his word and his deeds and his actions and the things that he has done through even the examples of those who are righteous before us.
And then we do those things and his peace protects us, but then turned the first John Chapter two,
first John, Chapter two. Beginning in those 12 John writes as the elder, the elder in the church,
the old man, Maybe at this time the only apostle still alive.
And in First John, Chapter two and in verse three. John writes Now by this we know that we know him.
John, How is it that we know that we know him? Is it because we have a feeling in our heart note?
Is it because we have an emotional attachment? Oh, God, no.
It begins with turning our life over to him and obeying Kim,
getting rid of self and serving God, but to do that. You have to die. You can’t live anymore.
If God’s going to live in you, you have to die. You have to die with Christ. Galatians,
Chapter three You have to be crucified with Christ.

2019 06 30 Aaron Cozort Sunday AM Sermon An Evaluation of Matthew 18 Part 1 The Importance of the Unimportant
Mt 18:1 ¶ At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 “Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 “Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. 6 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 ¶ “Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! 8 “If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. 9 “And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire. 10 “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven. 11 “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. 12 “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? 13 “And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. 14 “Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

of our lesson this morning is going to
0:01:11.740,0:01:20.650
be the importance of the unimportant
0:01:16.439,0:01:23.890
because there are those in our society
0:01:20.650,0:01:28.439
there are those who are easily
0:01:23.890,0:01:33.990
overlooked they are easily considered
0:01:28.439,0:01:38.470
commonly as unimportant overlooked and

under considered and our focus in

Matthew chapter 18 in the passages that
0:01:40.659,0:01:46.750
we will be discussing this morning is on
0:01:42.729,0:01:50.200
their importance because in God’s eyes
0:01:46.750,0:01:53.590
there is no one who is overlooked there
0:01:50.200,0:01:56.460

Jesus Christ came to seek and to save

those who were lost Jesus Christ came as
0:02:00.189,0:02:06.880

but God sent forth his son because he

loved the world John chapter 3 verse 16
0:02:10.570,0:02:16.570
for God so loved the world that He gave
0:02:12.970,0:02:22.109
His only begotten Son if an individual
0:02:16.570,0:02:22.109
is one for whom Christ died
0:02:22.209,0:02:29.469
and they are not unimportant so we’re
0:02:27.489,0:02:32.799
going to notice that from this passage
0:02:29.469,0:02:35.859
in Matthew chapter 18 verses 1 & 2 we’re
0:02:32.799,0:02:39.939
going to read that the Apostles asked
0:02:35.859,0:02:44.519
Jesus a question they asked him this
0:02:39.939,0:02:51.840
question who then is the greatest in the
0:02:44.519,0:02:57.489
kingdom of heaven who then master who
0:02:51.840,0:03:01.480
will be the greatest who is going to be
0:02:57.489,0:03:05.079
the one of greatest significance of most
0:03:01.480,0:03:09.489
importance what’s the biggest position
0:03:05.079,0:03:13.450
in the kingdom what’s the loftiest place
0:03:09.489,0:03:15.310
that one can attain in your kingdom that
0:03:13.450,0:03:17.680
they knew what it was in the Jewish
0:03:15.310,0:03:20.079
kingdom they knew those who had
0:03:17.680,0:03:22.780
authority and power in the in the Roman
0:03:20.079,0:03:25.180
world they knew what positions stood
0:03:22.780,0:03:27.519
right next to Caesar what they want to
0:03:25.180,0:03:29.889
know is when you come into your kingdom
0:03:27.519,0:03:35.440
when your kingdom is established what
0:03:29.889,0:03:40.419
does that position look like who’s going
0:03:35.440,0:03:43.269
to be there there else there are other
0:03:40.419,0:03:46.139
passages in the New Testament where we
0:03:43.269,0:03:50.620
read concerning the disciples
0:03:46.139,0:03:55.389
discouraging children from coming to
0:03:50.620,0:03:59.739
Jesus this is going to be another time
0:03:55.389,0:04:03.699
where Jesus uses children to illustrate
0:03:59.739,0:04:05.680
and to teach the disciples but as we
0:04:03.699,0:04:08.019
consider this idea of the importance of
0:04:05.680,0:04:11.680
the important consider forces 1 through
0:04:08.019,0:04:15.040
5 and the those who are unimportant in
0:04:11.680,0:04:17.440
the eyes of some being little children
0:04:15.040,0:04:20.320
what note is what Jesus says then Jesus
0:04:17.440,0:04:22.449
called a little child to him and set him
0:04:20.320,0:04:24.340
in the midst of them and said assuredly
0:04:22.449,0:04:27.610
I say to you unless you are converted
0:04:24.340,0:04:29.940
and become as little children you will
0:04:27.610,0:04:32.529
by no means enter the kingdom of heaven
0:04:29.940,0:04:34.719
therefore whoever humbles himself as
0:04:32.529,0:04:35.770
this little child is the greatest in the
0:04:34.719,0:04:38.289
kingdom of heaven
0:04:35.770,0:04:43.240
whoever receives one little child like
0:04:38.289,0:04:46.090
this in my name receives me Jesus says
0:04:43.240,0:04:47.710
and points out to the Apostles in answer
0:04:46.090,0:04:49.000
to their question they say who’s the
0:04:47.710,0:04:51.550
greatest in the kingdom of heaven and
0:04:49.000,0:04:53.590
Jesus takes a little child sits him in
0:04:51.550,0:04:59.789
front of them and says the one who’s
0:04:53.590,0:04:59.789
converted to become as a little child
0:04:59.849,0:05:08.500
when something is converted it changes
0:05:04.440,0:05:11.680
it’s different when you convert dollars
0:05:08.500,0:05:13.800
into pesos you still have money but you
0:05:11.680,0:05:16.810
don’t have the same money it is
0:05:13.800,0:05:18.509
different when you convert water into
0:05:16.810,0:05:20.470
ice
0:05:18.509,0:05:23.110
it’s different
0:05:20.470,0:05:26.500
it has different properties it serves a
0:05:23.110,0:05:29.889
different function jesus said you’re not
0:05:26.500,0:05:33.789
going to enter my kingdom and be like
0:05:29.889,0:05:36.129
you were before you came in if you’re
0:05:33.789,0:05:38.259
not going to be converted you’re not
0:05:36.129,0:05:41.729
going to enter the kingdom and he says
0:05:38.259,0:05:46.569
you have to be converted to become as
0:05:41.729,0:05:50.139
little children there are many lessons
0:05:46.569,0:05:53.380
that we can learn from children and all
0:05:50.139,0:05:56.880
of them are of great value but this one
0:05:53.380,0:06:00.940
lesson is the one I want to focus on
0:05:56.880,0:06:05.770
little children and their relationship
0:06:00.940,0:06:08.219
to their parents one of the things
0:06:05.770,0:06:13.270
that’s true about little children
0:06:08.219,0:06:17.050
outside of situations that are those
0:06:13.270,0:06:21.460
containing abuse and and complete misuse
0:06:17.050,0:06:26.789
of children is that children by their
0:06:21.460,0:06:32.169
very nature respect and love and honor
0:06:26.789,0:06:36.009
their parents when you consider the
0:06:32.169,0:06:39.009
attitude of a little child towards their
0:06:36.009,0:06:43.120
parents especially the youngest of
0:06:39.009,0:06:47.159
children they look look to their parents
0:06:43.120,0:06:49.000
as if their parents cannot do any wrong
0:06:47.159,0:06:51.730
they look to the
0:06:49.000,0:06:57.840
parents and they say I want to be just
0:06:51.730,0:07:00.910
like that it’s just part of human nature
0:06:57.840,0:07:04.060
they see what their parents can do that
0:07:00.910,0:07:07.270
just the fact that the adult can can
0:07:04.060,0:07:09.160
open the refrigerator on their own that
0:07:07.270,0:07:12.160
they can do the things that we consider
0:07:09.160,0:07:14.560
common as an adult they look at those
0:07:12.160,0:07:21.250
things and they say I want to do that
0:07:14.560,0:07:25.900
just earlier this week James taught mica
0:07:21.250,0:07:28.630
how to open the refrigerator you know
0:07:25.900,0:07:30.700
that Micah would think James’s big stuff
0:07:28.630,0:07:32.500
he can open that door but now Micah can
0:07:30.700,0:07:34.690
and that diminishes that a little bit
0:07:32.500,0:07:39.240
Micah’s eyes now even he can open the
0:07:34.690,0:07:41.470
door James isn’t quite so big anymore
0:07:39.240,0:07:43.180
but you know that same thing happens
0:07:41.470,0:07:44.980
with children they get to be older they
0:07:43.180,0:07:46.540
get to be teenagers they can start to
0:07:44.980,0:07:48.640
work they can start to do things on
0:07:46.540,0:07:52.930
their own they want independence and mom
0:07:48.640,0:07:56.490
and dad begin to diminish don’t they but
0:07:52.930,0:07:59.800
humanity does that we do that with God
0:07:56.490,0:08:01.780
we begin to have our own independence we
0:07:59.800,0:08:04.690
begin to have our own abilities and our
0:08:01.780,0:08:06.310
own strengths and our own technology and
0:08:04.690,0:08:09.610
achievements and we go through this
0:08:06.310,0:08:14.080
process where we begin to diminish the
0:08:09.610,0:08:15.970
power of God in our minds we go through
0:08:14.080,0:08:18.990
a process whereby we come to a
0:08:15.970,0:08:22.419
conclusion and I’m talking about society
0:08:18.990,0:08:28.410
humans come to the conclusion I don’t
0:08:22.419,0:08:28.410
really need him anymore
0:08:28.650,0:08:37.630
jesus said except you be converted and
0:08:31.950,0:08:40.539
become as little children you will by no
0:08:37.630,0:08:45.100
means enter the kingdom of heaven
0:08:40.539,0:08:47.940
and notice what specific application he
0:08:45.100,0:08:55.900
says he’s talking about
0:08:47.940,0:08:59.560
therefore whoever humbles himself jesus
0:08:55.900,0:09:01.510
said the importance of little children
0:08:59.560,0:09:02.500
the lessons we learn from little
0:09:01.510,0:09:09.000
children is
0:09:02.500,0:09:12.790
their humility in relationship to others
0:09:09.000,0:09:15.670
we are to be those who understand that
0:09:12.790,0:09:17.740
children have importance Jesus was one
0:09:15.670,0:09:19.930
who recognized that children have
0:09:17.740,0:09:22.180
importance Jesus was one who insisted
0:09:19.930,0:09:26.740
that children be allowed to come to him
0:09:22.180,0:09:29.140
he knew their value he would teach them
0:09:26.740,0:09:31.270
he would set them on his lap he would be
0:09:29.140,0:09:34.600
that he would be one who was kind to
0:09:31.270,0:09:37.090
them he would demonstrate the kind of
0:09:34.600,0:09:39.940
life that they are to live and then he
0:09:37.090,0:09:46.650
would say verse five whoever receives
0:09:39.940,0:09:50.410
one little child like this in my name
0:09:46.650,0:09:53.730
receives me you were might you might
0:09:50.410,0:09:57.550
remember over in Matthew chapter 25
0:09:53.730,0:10:01.480
Jesus gave a list Jesus gave a list of
0:09:57.550,0:10:05.860
those who had done good to him those who
0:10:01.480,0:10:08.320
would be the sheep and not the goats he
0:10:05.860,0:10:10.390
says those of you who will be the sheep
0:10:08.320,0:10:12.700
will be those who fed me when I was
0:10:10.390,0:10:15.640
naked or he fed me when I was hungry
0:10:12.700,0:10:17.950
clothe me when I was naked visited me in
0:10:15.640,0:10:19.960
prison and they would say Lord when have
0:10:17.950,0:10:21.700
we seen you in this state when have we
0:10:19.960,0:10:23.320
done these things to you and he says as
0:10:21.700,0:10:26.980
much as you’ve done it to the least of
0:10:23.320,0:10:29.170
these you’ve done it to me Jesus had a
0:10:26.980,0:10:30.700
focus throughout his ministry and even
0:10:29.170,0:10:34.020
at the very end of his ministry most
0:10:30.700,0:10:38.140
especially on those who were considered
0:10:34.020,0:10:42.540
unimportant because it had always been
0:10:38.140,0:10:44.830
the unimportant ones who had heard Jesus
0:10:42.540,0:10:47.110
you know the scribes and the Pharisees
0:10:44.830,0:10:49.540
looked down on Jesus because he ate with
0:10:47.110,0:10:52.210
publicans and sinners those whom they
0:10:49.540,0:10:54.010
would not even be in the same room with
0:10:52.210,0:10:56.260
if they could avoid it those who they
0:10:54.010,0:10:58.330
wouldn’t associate with if they could
0:10:56.260,0:11:00.670
avoid it they were those who they would
0:10:58.330,0:11:04.540
certainly not sit down to a meal with
0:11:00.670,0:11:09.570
and yet Jesus ate with them because
0:11:04.540,0:11:13.780
Jesus still considered them important if
0:11:09.570,0:11:15.300
we’re not going to be converted if our
0:11:13.780,0:11:18.690
life are my
0:11:15.300,0:11:22.500
our perspective and our being will not
0:11:18.690,0:11:24.180
be converted to the ways of God Jesus
0:11:22.500,0:11:28.740
says will not enter the kingdom of
0:11:24.180,0:11:33.300
heaven the importance of little children
0:11:28.740,0:11:37.730
is clear in Scripture the importance of
0:11:33.300,0:11:40.170
the lessons they teach us is also clear
0:11:37.730,0:11:41.910
but the little children isn’t the last
0:11:40.170,0:11:44.730
group of people Jesus is going to
0:11:41.910,0:11:47.790
mention in this context if you go to
0:11:44.730,0:11:50.600
verse 6 we find that the importance of
0:11:47.790,0:11:54.269
the unimportant when we see the easily
0:11:50.600,0:11:56.190
offended notice verse 6 but whoever
0:11:54.269,0:11:58.769
causes one of these little ones who
0:11:56.190,0:12:01.339
believes in me to sin now he’s not
0:11:58.769,0:12:04.950
talking about little children anymore
0:12:01.339,0:12:08.160
he’s transitioned from the little
0:12:04.950,0:12:10.800
children as a group to the little
0:12:08.160,0:12:15.029
children is a representative group of
0:12:10.800,0:12:17.490
someone else he says but whoever causes
0:12:15.029,0:12:20.100
one of these little ones who believes in
0:12:17.490,0:12:22.050
me to sin it would be better for him if
0:12:20.100,0:12:24.390
a millstone were hung around his neck
0:12:22.050,0:12:27.390
and he were drowned in the depths of the
0:12:24.390,0:12:30.480
sea woe to the world because of offenses
0:12:27.390,0:12:34.620
for offenses must come but woe to that
0:12:30.480,0:12:37.560
man by whom the offenses come if your
0:12:34.620,0:12:39.839
hand or foot causes you to sin cut it
0:12:37.560,0:12:43.529
off and cast it from you it is better
0:12:39.839,0:12:46.320
for you to enter into life maimed rather
0:12:43.529,0:12:48.750
than having two hands or two feet to be
0:12:46.320,0:12:51.120
cast into the everlasting fire and if
0:12:48.750,0:12:53.070
your eye causes you to sin pluck it out
0:12:51.120,0:12:54.630
and cast it from you it is better for
0:12:53.070,0:12:56.970
you to enter into life with one eye
0:12:54.630,0:13:02.910
rather than having two eyes to be cast
0:12:56.970,0:13:09.050
into hell fire Jesus points out the
0:13:02.910,0:13:13.320
importance of the easily offended now
0:13:09.050,0:13:16.740
for clarification we’re not talking
0:13:13.320,0:13:20.339
about the type of people who wear their
0:13:16.740,0:13:22.620
feelings on their sleeves we are not
0:13:20.339,0:13:25.500
talking about the people who raise their
0:13:22.620,0:13:27.060
hand every single time someone says
0:13:25.500,0:13:28.210
something they disagree with and say
0:13:27.060,0:13:30.510
well that offend
0:13:28.210,0:13:33.160
me it’s not what we’re talking about
0:13:30.510,0:13:35.950
that’s not not the kind of offenses
0:13:33.160,0:13:38.500
Jesus is talking about Jesus is not
0:13:35.950,0:13:40.480
talking about someone’s emotions or
0:13:38.500,0:13:42.880
someone being offended because someone
0:13:40.480,0:13:47.399
said something they didn’t like Jesus is
0:13:42.880,0:13:53.700
talking about one who’s caused to sin
0:13:47.399,0:13:58.390
one who is easily brought down or
0:13:53.700,0:14:02.500
stumbles because of someone else he’s
0:13:58.390,0:14:04.959
talking about the easily led astray he’s
0:14:02.500,0:14:08.080
talking about those who are novices
0:14:04.959,0:14:10.360
those who are babes in Christ he is
0:14:08.080,0:14:14.020
talking about those who are weak in
0:14:10.360,0:14:17.200
their understanding Paul in Romans
0:14:14.020,0:14:20.470
chapter 14 will spend the entirety of
0:14:17.200,0:14:24.310
that chapter talking about how we relate
0:14:20.470,0:14:27.700
to those who have less understanding or
0:14:24.310,0:14:32.650
an incomplete understanding or a lacking
0:14:27.700,0:14:35.140
understanding of Scripture and how we as
0:14:32.650,0:14:38.410
those who are stronger make sure that we
0:14:35.140,0:14:42.310
do not offend them because they belong
0:14:38.410,0:14:45.160
to someone else because someone died for
0:14:42.310,0:14:47.440
them he says these people who are
0:14:45.160,0:14:49.720
struggling who are incomplete in their
0:14:47.440,0:14:53.830
knowledge who do not fully understand
0:14:49.720,0:15:02.140
this particular issue of meats or of
0:14:53.830,0:15:04.930
days Christ died for them and remember
0:15:02.140,0:15:07.630
our standard of evaluation about who is
0:15:04.930,0:15:12.370
important in this life is did Christ
0:15:07.630,0:15:16.860
died for them because if he did they
0:15:12.370,0:15:19.959
qualify as important they have true
0:15:16.860,0:15:21.820
value but when you look at this idea
0:15:19.959,0:15:24.220
when you look at these individuals that
0:15:21.820,0:15:26.709
Jesus is talking about he says that
0:15:24.220,0:15:28.420
those who are offended he says whoever
0:15:26.709,0:15:31.360
causes one of these little ones who
0:15:28.420,0:15:35.440
believes in me to sin there’s our
0:15:31.360,0:15:40.150
defining term someone has caused someone
0:15:35.440,0:15:42.100
else to sin he says it’s better off that
0:15:40.150,0:15:44.200
the person who caused it
0:15:42.100,0:15:47.200
have a millstone hung about their neck
0:15:44.200,0:15:49.210
and be cast into the sea than they
0:15:47.200,0:15:54.730
should cause one of these little ones to
0:15:49.210,0:15:58.360
stumble maybe we don’t appreciate that
0:15:54.730,0:16:01.660
quite as much as we should maybe we
0:15:58.360,0:16:06.250
don’t value people quite as much as
0:16:01.660,0:16:09.400
Christ did Jesus looked at these people
0:16:06.250,0:16:14.200
who were weak Jesus looked at these
0:16:09.400,0:16:16.510
people who had real problems in their
0:16:14.200,0:16:19.780
lives Jesus looked at these people who
0:16:16.510,0:16:24.360
were dealing with sin and a very intense
0:16:19.780,0:16:31.840
level and he told his disciples you
0:16:24.360,0:16:38.070
treat them carefully you make sure you
0:16:31.840,0:16:43.860
don’t cause them to stumble and to sin
0:16:38.070,0:16:49.900
because the result is not only their sin
0:16:43.860,0:16:52.990
but God’s judgment on you will there be
0:16:49.900,0:16:56.470
people who will be in hell because of
0:16:52.990,0:17:01.450
how they treated their brethren yes
0:16:56.470,0:17:03.550
there will Jesus makes it plain Jesus
0:17:01.450,0:17:07.000
says that if there’s something causing
0:17:03.550,0:17:09.160
you to sin you cut it off if your foot
0:17:07.000,0:17:10.990
causes you to stumble you cut it off if
0:17:09.160,0:17:12.730
your eye causes you to sin you pluck it
0:17:10.990,0:17:15.430
out now he’s not talking about our
0:17:12.730,0:17:17.589
physical limbs he’s not talking about
0:17:15.430,0:17:19.930
what we do to our body he’s not talking
0:17:17.589,0:17:22.060
about taking our hand you know what I
0:17:19.930,0:17:24.640
have done something wrong with this hand
0:17:22.060,0:17:28.030
it’s caused me to sin I’m gonna cut it
0:17:24.640,0:17:31.150
off and now I won’t send anymore it’s
0:17:28.030,0:17:32.680
not what he’s saying he just like he’s
0:17:31.150,0:17:34.210
taking the little children and he’s
0:17:32.680,0:17:35.980
teaching us something from them he’s
0:17:34.210,0:17:38.110
talking about our bodies and teaching us
0:17:35.980,0:17:41.200
something from that because here’s what
0:17:38.110,0:17:46.350
we know you don’t enter into the kingdom
0:17:41.200,0:17:48.760
of heaven with this physical body do you
0:17:46.350,0:17:51.280
until we’re changed we’re not entering
0:17:48.760,0:17:52.960
into the kingdom of heaven so what Jesus
0:17:51.280,0:17:55.480
is talking about is not the physical
0:17:52.960,0:17:57.760
body but the spiritual
0:17:55.480,0:17:59.289
he’s talking about our mind he’s talking
0:17:57.760,0:18:07.059
about our life and he’s talking about
0:17:59.289,0:18:09.490
our relationship even in the church for
0:18:07.059,0:18:12.820
the sake of time we’re not going to deal
0:18:09.490,0:18:17.019
with verses 15 through verse 20 this
0:18:12.820,0:18:19.090
morning but if you don’t think there’s a
0:18:17.019,0:18:22.419
connection between the cutting off of
0:18:19.090,0:18:24.760
the hand and the brother whose sins and
0:18:22.419,0:18:28.000
won’t repent you’ve missed something in
0:18:24.760,0:18:30.100
this context because these two things
0:18:28.000,0:18:34.570
are connected we’re going to spend more
0:18:30.100,0:18:37.889
time on that this afternoon but I want
0:18:34.570,0:18:43.059
us to focus on the spiritually
0:18:37.889,0:18:48.429
defenseless those who are easily
0:18:43.059,0:18:52.510
offended none of us ever wants to admit
0:18:48.429,0:18:54.700
were that person you convert someone you
0:18:52.510,0:18:58.419
teach them the gospel and from that day
0:18:54.700,0:19:03.039
they don’t want to say I’m easily led
0:18:58.419,0:19:08.950
astray but they are and sometimes we all
0:19:03.039,0:19:10.600
are in that position have you ever been
0:19:08.950,0:19:12.279
in the situation where you’re with
0:19:10.600,0:19:15.519
someone you respect you’re with another
0:19:12.279,0:19:17.740
Christian who you consider to be
0:19:15.519,0:19:20.169
spiritually upright and to be
0:19:17.740,0:19:22.269
spiritually an example to follow and
0:19:20.169,0:19:26.409
then they do something that’s wrong and
0:19:22.269,0:19:29.380
you’re tempted to do it – well if
0:19:26.409,0:19:30.850
so-and-so did it it must be okay they
0:19:29.380,0:19:32.860
know more than I do they’ve been
0:19:30.850,0:19:38.549
Christian longer than been a Christian
0:19:32.860,0:19:43.809
longer and I have it must be fine our
0:19:38.549,0:19:48.899
example is what Jesus is calling on us
0:19:43.809,0:19:52.149
to consider where do we lead others if
0:19:48.899,0:19:55.269
others went where we go in our lives
0:19:52.149,0:19:58.809
would they be better Christians or worse
0:19:55.269,0:20:01.059
if they visited the places we visit if
0:19:58.809,0:20:03.970
they frequented the locations we go to
0:20:01.059,0:20:06.129
would they be better or worse if they
0:20:03.970,0:20:08.890
had the habits that we have would they
0:20:06.129,0:20:11.740
be stronger or weaker Christians if they
0:20:08.890,0:20:14.950
the way we speak would they be those who
0:20:11.740,0:20:18.370
speak more in positive forms or would
0:20:14.950,0:20:20.410
they be complaining more often if they
0:20:18.370,0:20:22.510
were those who were doing the things
0:20:20.410,0:20:24.760
that we do would they be those who are
0:20:22.510,0:20:27.340
praising God in their lives more or
0:20:24.760,0:20:32.920
those who were ignoring his Commandments
0:20:27.340,0:20:35.500
more people are watching you young
0:20:32.920,0:20:41.820
Christians especially are watching us
0:20:35.500,0:20:44.559
and what do they see do they see an
0:20:41.820,0:20:49.660
example that’s leading them down the
0:20:44.559,0:20:52.240
wrong path but the third group see the
0:20:49.660,0:20:54.490
importance of little children we see the
0:20:52.240,0:20:57.130
importance of the easily offended but we
0:20:54.490,0:21:03.490
also see in this context the importance
0:20:57.130,0:21:07.900
of the wayward sheep some might have the
0:21:03.490,0:21:12.429
perspective that when someone goes
0:21:07.900,0:21:15.490
astray when someone spiritually turns
0:21:12.429,0:21:18.549
their back on Christ turns their back on
0:21:15.490,0:21:21.940
the church and walks away that they’ve
0:21:18.549,0:21:24.400
they’ve done that to themselves they’ve
0:21:21.940,0:21:26.160
made their choice you just gotta let
0:21:24.400,0:21:29.020
them go
0:21:26.160,0:21:31.030
you just got to be satisfied with the
0:21:29.020,0:21:38.020
fact that they’re not coming back and
0:21:31.030,0:21:41.559
move on some might even go to the
0:21:38.020,0:21:46.419
example of the prodigal son and say see
0:21:41.559,0:21:48.970
that father didn’t chase down his son he
0:21:46.419,0:21:50.950
just stayed at home and waited and we’ve
0:21:48.970,0:21:54.340
got to do the same thing which would of
0:21:50.950,0:21:59.320
course ignore the first two aspects of
0:21:54.340,0:22:03.429
that account Jesus here reiterates a
0:21:59.320,0:22:05.650
portion of that account when he says
0:22:03.429,0:22:08.530
verse 10 take heed that you do not
0:22:05.650,0:22:10.450
despise one of these little ones for I
0:22:08.530,0:22:13.330
say to you that in heaven their angels
0:22:10.450,0:22:15.309
always see the face of my father who is
0:22:13.330,0:22:20.650
in heaven by the way the context of that
0:22:15.309,0:22:22.749
statement is not little children there
0:22:20.650,0:22:24.759
are been many who have come to this path
0:22:22.749,0:22:26.739
talked about the the angels who watch
0:22:24.759,0:22:32.460
over little children and that’s not the
0:22:26.739,0:22:37.320
context the context of this passage is
0:22:32.460,0:22:41.679
Christians who are easily offended and
0:22:37.320,0:22:43.509
struggling he says take heed that you do
0:22:41.679,0:22:45.519
not despise one of these little ones for
0:22:43.509,0:22:47.980
I say to you that in heaven their angels
0:22:45.519,0:22:50.200
always see the face of my father who is
0:22:47.980,0:22:54.779
in heaven for the Son of man has come to
0:22:50.200,0:22:54.779
seek and to save that which is lost
0:22:54.869,0:23:02.859
jesus said I came to bring back to seek
0:22:59.350,0:23:07.869
to find those who are wayward those who
0:23:02.859,0:23:10.210
are struggling those who are lost what
0:23:07.869,0:23:13.269
do you think if a man has a hundred
0:23:10.210,0:23:15.519
sheep and one of them goes astray does
0:23:13.269,0:23:17.710
he not leave the ninety-nine and go to
0:23:15.519,0:23:20.830
the mountains to seek that one who is
0:23:17.710,0:23:22.480
straying and if he should find it
0:23:20.830,0:23:25.320
assuredly I say to you he rejoices
0:23:22.480,0:23:31.239
moreover that sheep than over the 99
0:23:25.320,0:23:33.220
that did not go astray even so it is not
0:23:31.239,0:23:37.419
the will of your father who is in heaven
0:23:33.220,0:23:42.059
that one of these little ones should
0:23:37.419,0:23:45.489
perish it is the will of God that
0:23:42.059,0:23:49.059
everyone should be saved but sometimes
0:23:45.489,0:23:51.489
that salvation requires those who are
0:23:49.059,0:23:59.649
faithful to get out of their comfort
0:23:51.489,0:24:03.970
zone and go seek those who are lost we
0:23:59.649,0:24:07.840
all know people who have been faithful
0:24:03.970,0:24:10.899
Christians in the past we all know
0:24:07.840,0:24:13.450
people who have wandered away from the
0:24:10.899,0:24:16.480
truth and from righteous living and from
0:24:13.450,0:24:23.200
the gospel and we all know people who
0:24:16.480,0:24:30.190
could be saved if someone would go be a
0:24:23.200,0:24:34.830
Shepherd to them jesus said that he came
0:24:30.190,0:24:39.000
to seek and to save what was lost he
0:24:34.830,0:24:41.970
acts as a shepherd who leaves behind the
0:24:39.000,0:24:44.549
ninety-nine who are safe who leaves
0:24:41.970,0:24:48.960
behind the ninety-nine who were faithful
0:24:44.549,0:24:53.130
and goes out searching for the one who’s
0:24:48.960,0:24:57.090
departed the one who’s wayward the one
0:24:53.130,0:24:59.220
who’s astray Jesus perspective about
0:24:57.090,0:25:00.570
those who’ve departed from the truth is
0:24:59.220,0:25:03.120
not you know what they’ve made their
0:25:00.570,0:25:05.250
choice you know what if they don’t want
0:25:03.120,0:25:06.980
to be here anymore then we can’t change
0:25:05.250,0:25:12.230
their mind
0:25:06.980,0:25:15.169
no his perspective is if they’re lost
0:25:12.230,0:25:19.559
why are you still here
0:25:15.169,0:25:22.830
go get them we need to be those who
0:25:19.559,0:25:26.010
consider the wayward the same way Jesus
0:25:22.830,0:25:28.830
did we need to be those who consider the
0:25:26.010,0:25:32.070
straying the same way Jesus did those
0:25:28.830,0:25:36.360
who have opportunities for us to restore
0:25:32.070,0:25:42.960
and when they’re restored that we have
0:25:36.360,0:25:46.710
more joy in them than in all the others
0:25:42.960,0:25:51.480
who were already saved we need to have a
0:25:46.710,0:25:53.490
perspective about the unimportant we
0:25:51.480,0:25:56.279
need to have a perspective about the
0:25:53.490,0:25:58.919
overlooked we need to have a perspective
0:25:56.279,0:26:02.399
about those who are the under considered
0:25:58.919,0:26:06.149
within the body of Christ that we seek
0:26:02.399,0:26:09.510
and save those who are lost that we make
0:26:06.149,0:26:12.480
sure we treat correctly and provide good
0:26:09.510,0:26:18.059
examples to the easily offended and that
0:26:12.480,0:26:22.230
we honor the little children among us we
0:26:18.059,0:26:28.500
need to be those who are living the life
0:26:22.230,0:26:34.080
of Christ towards others who are around
0:26:28.500,0:26:39.269
us Jesus would make it clear there is no
0:26:34.080,0:26:44.809
one who is unimportant but let’s return
0:26:39.269,0:26:49.770
back to that very first question
0:26:44.809,0:26:54.110
the Apostles asked who is the greatest
0:26:49.770,0:26:54.110
in the kingdom of heaven
0:26:56.030,0:27:05.100
Jesus didn’t just say that these three
0:26:59.400,0:27:08.370
groups of people were important but he
0:27:05.100,0:27:12.450
identified their humility those who were
0:27:08.370,0:27:14.970
wayward and repent they are humbling
0:27:12.450,0:27:17.640
themselves before God those who are
0:27:14.970,0:27:18.750
easily offended but they’re striving to
0:27:17.640,0:27:20.820
do what is right
0:27:18.750,0:27:24.200
the little children who humble
0:27:20.820,0:27:29.610
themselves before God he identifies this
0:27:24.200,0:27:33.750
one characteristic in them all their
0:27:29.610,0:27:36.480
humility is what causes them to be the
0:27:33.750,0:27:37.679
greatest in the kingdom of heaven you
0:27:36.480,0:27:39.390
say wait a minute
0:27:37.679,0:27:42.300
someone who’s easily offended their
0:27:39.390,0:27:47.059
greater and as a Christian than I am yep
0:27:42.300,0:27:50.790
if they’re humble because it is pride
0:27:47.059,0:27:54.410
that keeps us from being what God wants
0:27:50.790,0:27:56.880
us to be examine your life this morning
0:27:54.410,0:27:59.809
examine your actions towards others
0:27:56.880,0:28:02.040
examine your relationship to your
0:27:59.809,0:28:07.710
relationship to your brethren and ask
0:28:02.040,0:28:12.900
yourself is pride keeping me from
0:28:07.710,0:28:16.290
considering others above myself is pride
0:28:12.900,0:28:21.600
getting in the way of me being like
0:28:16.290,0:28:25.530
Christ or am i humble before God as a
0:28:21.600,0:28:30.020
little child before others as a little
0:28:25.530,0:28:32.640
child and seeking those who are lost in
0:28:30.020,0:28:34.140
humbleness and humility before God if
0:28:32.640,0:28:38.700
you’re outside the body of Christ this
0:28:34.140,0:28:42.750
morning Jesus said he came to seek and
0:28:38.700,0:28:44.790
save that which was lost and you are if
0:28:42.750,0:28:48.240
you’re outside the body of Christ this
0:28:44.790,0:28:51.860
morning you’re lost and he spoke twice
0:28:48.240,0:28:57.120
in this context about those in danger of
0:28:51.860,0:28:57.990
Hell an eternal fire if you’re lost
0:28:57.120,0:29:00.660
you’re
0:28:57.990,0:29:04.530
in a dangerous position because if you
0:29:00.660,0:29:07.470
die lost there’s not a second chance at
0:29:04.530,0:29:09.270
Salvation if you’re outside the body of
0:29:07.470,0:29:11.160
Christ this morning you’re outside where
0:29:09.270,0:29:13.410
of the place where salvation is found
0:29:11.160,0:29:15.570
you’re outside of the location where the
0:29:13.410,0:29:18.390
blood of Christ covers all sins and
0:29:15.570,0:29:20.520
where grace is given to all those who
0:29:18.390,0:29:22.920
are present if you’re outside the body
0:29:20.520,0:29:24.960
of Christ you can change that you can
0:29:22.920,0:29:26.850
enter into that body you can enter into
0:29:24.960,0:29:28.800
that church by hearing the Word of God
0:29:26.850,0:29:29.630
and believing that Jesus Christ is the
0:29:28.800,0:29:32.610
son of God
0:29:29.630,0:29:35.880
repenting of your sins which requires
0:29:32.610,0:29:39.150
humility it requires the willingness to
0:29:35.880,0:29:42.660
say I was wrong and I’m going to change
0:29:39.150,0:29:48.720
it’s called being converted verse 2 and
0:29:42.660,0:29:51.059
verse 3 repent of your sins confess the
0:29:48.720,0:29:53.340
name of Christ confess allegiance to
0:29:51.059,0:29:55.050
Christ as Lord and Savior and be
0:29:53.340,0:29:58.470
immersed in water for the remission of
0:29:55.050,0:30:01.650
those sins dying to the old way of sin
0:29:58.470,0:30:03.750
to the old man of sin rising again to
0:30:01.650,0:30:07.380
walk in newness of life have you done
0:30:03.750,0:30:10.200
that if you’ve not done that why not do
0:30:07.380,0:30:12.660
that today you have need of the
0:30:10.200,0:30:16.820

First Timothy chapter one verse 17 in spite of the technical difficulty we may be having at the moment, Paul writes to Timothy and as he is writing to Timothy, he says this beginning in verse 12 and I think Christ Jesus, our Lord who has enabled me because he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry. Let’s, let’s begin by noticing that Paul’s discussion is writing to this young preacher,
writing to this young man to tell him of the blessing that he’s received and the ministry that he’s received and that they, he’s received that by the grace of God because God allowed him to be there. He didn’t merit it. He didn’t earn it. It wasn’t by birth and it wasn’t by lineage. It wasn’t by tribe and it wasn’t by the the majesty or the glory or the the education that he had.
It was because God chose him and because God permitted him to be placed in this position to have this ministry. He says, although verse 13 I was formally a blasphemer, a persecutor and insolent man, but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. Paul says, there was a time when I was persecuting the church. There was a time when I was opposing God,
but I was ignorant about what I was doing. I did it in unbelief. Now, there’s an interesting point there. There. Here is an example of an individual who’s opposing God and is ignorant concerning God. Now, it’s an interesting point because Paul will later state and we’ll discuss even throughout this lesson that the reality was he was without excuse in his ignorance,
and yet he was ignorant and Paul will often tell individuals because of what God has revealed, that they will be held accountable and that they are without excuse. And yet he obtained this grace. The grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant with faith and love, which are in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am.
Chief Paul is an individual that we often look to as a great preacher, as a great apostle. It’s a great writer of the new Testament, and yet he says of himself, I am the chief of sinners. I am the lowest of the low because of his past. However, for this reason, I obtained mercy that in me first, Jesus Christ,
Mike shell, all long suffering as a pattern to those who are going to believe on him for everlasting life. Paul says, if you want to find an example of God’s long suffering, if you want to show someone an example of God’s long suffering and giving mercy and grace to someone who didn’t deserve it, who he could have just as easily have killed instead of granting him grace and mercy,
use me. That’s why God did what he did. He granted he showed his long suffering that through his actions toward me, that I might be a pattern for those who were seeking after everlasting life. If anyone comes to God and says, you know what, I’ve just done too many wrong things. I’ve just been to insulin. I’ve just been too abusive.
I’ve just been too much of a persecutor. I’ve done too much. God says, look at Paul. I forgave him, but look at his faithfulness. Look at what he suffered. Look at what he endured for my sake. Yeah, And remember that was the cost. He says then verse 17 now too King. We discussed that this morning, our lesson this morning was on Christ the King and this context,
this passage is speaking of Christ now to the King, eternal immortal, invisible. Three words here used to describe Christ, three words backed up by other places in scripture that define and describe Christ as King. Now in the context of eternal, there are going to be far more passages than we have time to go through, and even the number of ones that I put up on the screen,
we won’t get to all of them and notice all of them. Otherwise we won’t have time for the final two words. But hopefully if you have a pen and a piece of paper, you can jot down a few of these as we go through them, especially those that we don’t get to and spend some time in your own study noticing all of the ladies that God describes the E turn ality of Christ in his being and in his kingship.
But as we get into this, the first thing we want to do is notice what this word eternal is. The word for eternal is the word from which we get our word eon. It is the word that means age. It is sometimes translated to mean world. It sometimes translated to mean age and yet it also carries with it this idea of forever and ever or forever more.
So the context is always going to to wrap this words idea and give it its definition. That’s why it’s important. Whenever you’re reading through scripture and you know a little bit about a word in the original language, it’s always important to interpret it by the context it’s in. Let’s begin in Luke chapter one as we notice this idea of eternal in relationship to Christ and Christ as King.
Let’s begin in Luke chapter one in verse 30 then the angel said to her, to Mary, do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God and behold you will conceive in your room and bring forth a son and shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the son of the highest and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
and he will reign over the house of Jacob. And here’s that word Ian. For forever and of his kingdom there will be no, and the angel tells Mary the one who you are going to give birth to, the one who you will give birth to through the Holy spirit. The one who will be conceived in you by the Holy spirit is Jesus.
That will be his name, but he is the one who will be given the throne of David. He will be a King and he will be any Turnell King. But then notice another passage, Matthew chapter six verse 13 as this passage is referencing Christ in prayer to the father, yet it gives an interesting statement here Jesus is teaching his disciples to pray and he says in verse nine in this manner,
therefore pray our father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and they’re,
the reason why that passage is so significant is yes, this is the son speaking to the father. Yes, this is Christ speaking of God the father, and yet it is the glory of the father that will be bestowed upon the son. So there’s a connection here, but then notice his presence. Jesus will tell his in Matthew chapter 28 and in verse 20 as he is preparing to leave this earth,
as he is preparing to ascend back to the father, that he has received all authority. He commands them to go out into teach all nations, to teach them, to baptize them, to teach them, But then he says this, and lo, I am with you always. Even to the end of the eon is the Greek word there. Age Christ is saying,
my presence isn’t going to depart from you. My presence isn’t going away because I am eternal. Then consider also that his blessings, his rewards are eternal. Peter real question. Christ concerning the rewards that will come to those who have given up things in this life who’ve given up homes and wives and families and, and, and, and possessions. And Christ says that they will receive more In this life and in the life to come.
Then they have given up here and now Christ speaks concerning the blessings and the rewards that he has to offer those who are faithful to him not being just in this life but being eternal. What is a King who offers a real Lord that he can’t give? Certainly not the kind of King you want to serve. And yet Christ offers a row ward that is eternal.
Why? Because he is eternal. But then consider as well you have the prophesied nature of Christ. If you turn over to John chapter one John chapter one beginning in verse 67, we have an interesting um, prophecy here. Not from necessarily someone you would expect if, unless you’re familiar with the passage, John chapter one, I’ve got the wrong versus hole.
That’s because it’s supposed to be. Luke chapter one I believe. I think I wrote the wrong book. Yes. Luke chapter one. Sorry for the typo. Luke chapter one beginning in verse 67 you have Zechariah and Zechariah is here speaking. He’s filled with the Holy spirit, verse 67 and he is speaking concerning the things that are to come because John,
his son, who we know is John the Baptist has just been born and he has just been named and Zechariah has just received the ability to speak again, but notice this prophecy now. His father’s Zacharias was filled with the Holy spirit and prophesied saying bless it as the Lord of Israel for he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David.
Okay, there’s a Sal. There is salvation coming? There’s a prophesied salvation coming. There’s a redemption coming and it’s coming from the house of David, just as the old Testament said it would as he spoke by the mouth of his Holy prophets who have been since the world began. Yeah. From the beginning of time, since the beginning of the age.
Since the beginning of the world here, Zechariah says, this has been spoken. This isn’t something that happened the way people do with modern day prophecies and three days before it happens. All this is going to happen in three days or a year before this happens. This is no from the foundation of the world. This has been told. You can go to Genesis chapter three and you can read God’s judgment against the serpent and you can see Christ,
the seed of woman as part of that judgment from the foundation of the world. This has been declared, but verse 71 that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us to perform the Mercy’s promise to our fathers and to remember his Holy covenant, the oath which he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us, that we being delivered from the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him.
All the days of our lives. And you child will be called the prophet of the highest and you would go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways to give knowledge of salvation to his people and by the remission or by the remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high has visited us to give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Zechariah says of John, who has just been born, who has just been named you will be the prophet of the Lord. You will be the profit of the highest, the one who prepares the way of the Lord, who gives knowledge of salvation to his people. The eternal nature of the kingship of Christ is prophesied here. No, this is Zechariah says,
we will serve him our whole life, Right? If we are going to serve the King our whole life, it must be the case that the King’s reign going to extend beyond our life. We see the eternal nature of the King. Well then consider also this kingdom reaches to the Gentiles and the eternal nature also reaches to the Gentiles. Ephesians chapter three beginning in verse four we read this by which when you read,
you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ, which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men as it has now been revealed by the spirit to his Holy apostles and prophets, that the Gentiles should be fellow layers and of the same body and partakers of his promise in Christ through the gospel. So notice the context. Notice what Paul says.
The Gentiles are fellow heirs. They are per takers in the rewards and in the promise of the gospel of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God, given to me by the effective working of his power to me who am less than the least of all the saints. This grace was given that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ and the make all see which is the fellowship of the mystery,
which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ. Notice there was a mystery that was hidden unrevealed. It was yet to be declared. It was yet to be revealed and yet it was spoken of. It was told that the Gentiles would have a part in it, and yet there wasn’t a full revelation of what it was that would come to pass according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus,
our Lord in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in him. What is it that is part of the eternal nature of the kingship of Christ? What is it that is part of the eternal nature of Christ? Bringing his promises about in this life that will promise from the world, from the time of world began? It is the presence and boldness of the Gentiles to approach God.
And I suggest to you this afternoon that that’s very good news for all of us sitting here because I don’t think there are any Jews present. Okay? This is good news for all of us. It means we have part in the promises of God and Christ as King, but then you also see Christ in the old Testament. The eternal nature of Christ is that you don’t just see Christ in the new Testament.
You don’t just see Christ after he’s born, but you see Christ in the old Testament, first King, or excuse me, first Chronicles, chapter 10 Paul throughout this chapter will bring forward Christ in the old Testament, but notice a few of the examples. Yeah. Verses one Through four we read more over brethren. I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud,
all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. All ate the same spiritual food and all drink the same spiritual drink for they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them. And that rock was Christ. Here he references the giving of water from the rock. He references the manna from heaven. He references the salvation coming through the red sea and he says this Was Christ.
Then verses five through verse nine we read, but with most of them, God was not well pleased for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. Now these things became our examples to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted and do not become idolaters as they, as some of them were. As it is written, the people sat down to eat and drink and Rose up to play,
nor let us commit sexual immorality as some of them did, and in one day, 23,000 fell and notice this next phrase, no, or let us tell Crying As some of them also Tempted. Wait a minute. You’re telling me that in the old Testament when those Israelites went out and went forth and went into idolatry, that first-generation that proceeded out of the land of Egypt and into the land of Canaan,
but didn’t enter in and turned back and departed from the way have gone and followed after idols and followed after sexual morality and followed after their loss. You’re telling me they tempted Christ. That’s exactly what that passage just said.<inaudible> And were destroyed by serpents. Oh, you remember the time and book of numbers where the serpents were sent among them and it wasn’t until they came out and looked upon the brazen serpent that they would be healed And that one that was lifted up.
Yeah, In the midst of the camp that they had to look upon. That one that was lifted up, looked toward Christ. That’s exactly what Paul says, But then consider as well, you have Christ reign, Christ reign as King being without end. Ephesians chapter one. Yeah, Fijian chapter one beginning in verse 21 Paul as he is speaking here concerning the church and concerning Christ,
verse 20 which he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at the right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named not only in this age but also in that which is to come and he’s put all things under his feet and gave him to be head over all things to the church,
which is his body, the fullness of him that fill us all in all here, Christ is described as one ruling, not only in this age, but in the age to come. His reign is eternal. Chapter two verses six through seven has raised us up together and made us to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come,
he might show the exceeding riches of his grace and in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Not only is his reign eternal, the benefits of his citizenship are eternal. But then consider revelation chapter 11 revelation chapter 11 and in verse 15 we have this statement, verse 15, Dean of revelation chapter 11. Then the 77 angel sounded, and there were loud voices in heaven saying the kingdom of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ and he shall reign.
Oh, it doesn’t just say he shall reign, does it? It says, and he shall reign for forever and never Christ the King. Eternal. Chapter 22 and in verse one, as the picture of the new heaven and the new earth are presenting chapter 22 in verse one and he showed me a river of uh, excuse me, a pure river of water of life,
clear as crystal, proceeding from where? From the throne of God and of the lamb. Verse five there shall be no night. There may need no lamp nor light of the sun for the Lord. God gives them light and they shall reign or ever and ever. Paul says to the King eternal. It is because he understands the nature of not only the King but of his reign.
You might also consider as well that he is the one who brings forth the Gentiles into this kingdom. We might also notice that he’s the one who made the worlds. He is the creator from the very beginning. John chapter one verses one and two all things were made through him and without him was not anything made that was made. Yeah, Hebrews chapter one makes it clear that the one through whom God now speaks is the one through whom he made the worlds in.
All things are upheld by the word of his power. All of these passages make it clear that Christ is not only eternal in his reign but has been here from me. Turnitin. Okay. Jesus said it this way before Abraham was, I am Well then consider as well that his throne is eternal. Over and Hebrews chapter one Hebrews chapter one and in verse eight you have a prophecy from the old Testament,
from the book of Psalms and Psalms chapter 45 here applied to Christ correctly applied to Christ in the new Testament with clarity concerning what it is that the Psalmus writer meant. In Hebrews chapter one in verse eight we read, but to the son, he says, your throne, O God is forever and ever a Sceptre of righteousness is the Sceptre of your kingdom.
There’s an interesting statement there because the ones speaking is the Lord. The Lord is speaking and saying to the Lord, your throne, Oh God is forever. Jehovah is speaking to someone else. He’s speaking To the second person in the Godhead and he’s describing his throne as eternal, but then consider as well and Hebrews chapter five that his priesthood is eternal. I understand we’re focusing on his kingship,
but in interesting value proposition here. His priesthood is eternal and his kingship is eternal and he is a King and a priest after the order of is a deck. Hebrews chapter five and in verse six we read and he says, he also says in another place, you are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. That comes from Psalms 110 again,
he reiterated that and Hebrews chapter seven verse 17 we read this, he testifies you are a priest forever according to the<inaudible>, as if we hadn’t quite gotten the point yet. Verse 21 for they have become priests without an old, but he is with an old by him who said to him, the Lord is warning will not relent. You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
Why in the world is the Hebrew writer hammering this so many times Because there was never a priest in Israel Who was the King Because there was never a King in Israel who was a priest and every priest in Israel died And yet the King, the priest, Christ would be King forever. Not like the lineage of Aaron, but very much different from that,
but consider also the runner. He is our four runner into eternity. Hebrews chapter six beginning in verse 19 we read this hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, which enters the presence behind the veil. A few things that are important as we get to the next verse, the veil is death. There’s a hope that we have that enters beyond death that has gone ahead of us,
that anchor that we can cast through this life into eternity and have assurance of what is to come. And verse 20 we read where the four runner has entered for us. Even Jesus having become high priest forever according to the order of milk as a Dak Hebrew writer says, Christ is our anchor. He’s gone before us, and that hope that we have in Christ is a hope that is assured that enters beyond death and gives us confidence of what is to come.
But then consider also that Hebrew writer says that the, that Christ is the same. Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. He’s unchanging. He’s not going to depart. He’s not going to leave us behind. He’s not going to neglect us. He is not going to forsake us. He is the lamb, the lamb that was slain and is alive again.
Revelation chapter five verse 13 he is the lamb that was slain and yet revelation chapter one verses 13 through 18 says this, revelation chapter one verse 13 says, and in the midst of the seven lampstands one like the son of man clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band, his head and his hair were white like wool,
as white as snow. And his eyes like the flame of fire. His feet were like fine. Brass is refined by a furnace and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand, seven stars out of his mouth when a sharp twoedged sword and his countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. And when I saw him,
I fell at his feet as dead, but he laid his right hand on me saying to me, do not be afraid. I am the first and the last I am he who lives and was dead and behold, I am alive forever more. Amen. And I have the keys of Haiti’s and death. Write the things which you have seen in the things which are and the things which will take place after this.
Yeah. Christ appears to John and John sees his appearance and John falls down as dead and Christ lifts him up and says, do not be afraid on the first and the last. I’m the one who lives and who died and who is alive forevermore. Christ the King. Is he turtle? Well, then we come to this word immortal. You might think if you were looking at this from an English perspective,
that he terminal in immortal. That’s kind of the same thing. That’s not now when you go back to the original meaning of this word, because the original meaning of this world word doesn’t mean never dies. The original meaning of this word in the in the Greek language was incorruptible without quite literally not corrupted. The idea of this word is not only is God not going to die,
not only is Christ not going to die, not only is his, he is King not going to die, he is without corruption in his life. First Kings chapter, excuse me, I do that again. First Corinthians, first Corinthians chapter three and in verse 17 if anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is Holy,
which temple you are, the word defiled. There is the positive form of the word not corrupted. In first Timothy chapter one so first it’d be chapter one verse 17 you have in the Greek language, if you put an a in front of something, an alpha in front of something, it turns it into a negative. It means not this. So in this passage,
the word defiled is the word for corruption. First Timothy, chapter one verse 17 is not corrupted, not corruptible. Chapter 15 verse 33 of Corinthians. Paul uses this phrase inside this context of the resurrection and he, it’s very interesting that it’s here. We’re going to see some of the interesting aspects of this in just a moment, but inside a discussion of the resurrection,
he says this to these church, these brethren at Corinth, he says, verse 33 do not be conceived. Evil companions, corrupt good habits. Paul’s says that your way of life can be corrupted and it’s interesting. He uses this word that he’s going to use the negative form of and just a few verses. He says, your life can be corrupted by evil influences,
and by the way, the context is evil influences in the church. He’s talking about brethren teaching false doctrines. He’s talking about those brethren that are denying the resurrection. He’s not talking about evil influences in the world. He’s not talking about don’t spend your time with those who are committing fornication and adultery and unseemly things. He’s telling these brethren, you stay away from Christians who are teaching what is faults because they’re evil communication way of life will corrupt yours,
but then notice as well going to the use of the word incorruption. This same word that we have translated in first Timothy chapter one verse 17 as immortal. Romans chapter one verse 23 says, professing to be wise, verse 22 they became fools and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible men and birds and four footed animals and creeping things.
He’s talking about the idolatry of the Gentiles. He’s talking about the history of these pagan people who have taken the image of God. They’ve taken the idea of God, the glory of God, the declaration of God, and they’ve made him like a corruptible creature. They fashioned it with corruptible things. They fashioned images as corruptible individuals or creatures or animals and such like to represent God.
Paul says, you can’t take the image of God who is incorruptible and create an image that looks like him made out of that which is corruptible, but then notice also the crown of the King is referenced as that which is incorruptible. In first Corinthians chapter nine verse 25 we read this. You do not run, excuse me. You did not know. Verse 24 those who run in a race all run,
but one receives the prize run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown. Quite often during the days of the races that Paul is referencing, the crown would be made of of limbs and and, and uh, and leaves and that type of thing.
It was a full crown. It would die in just a matter of days. And yet he says, but we, for an imperishable crown, Again, we’re reminded that the reward of Christ, much like the existence of Christ is eternal. It is in corruptible, but then consider also Peter says, using this same imagery, this same word, he uses it to reference our inheritance.
In first Peter chapter one and in verse four he says to an inheritance, he’s speaking about the resurrection, Christ from the dead to an inheritance, incorruptible and undefiled. And that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you. We place our whole bar trust, our expectation of our inheritance in a Christ who is eternal. And his reward will not disappear,
Right? It will not be moth eaten, it will not be stolen. It is in corruptible. But then again, we are also reminded that the seed with which we are born into eternal life is also incorruptible first. First Peter chapter one verse 22 sends you a purified your souls in obeying the truth through the spirit in sincere love of the brethren love one another fervently with a pure heart,
having been born again, not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible through the word of God which lives and abides forever. Now I mentioned this morning as we read row revelation chapter 19 and we read concerning the one who had a name that no one knew and we read concerning the one who was on the white horse and we read his name is The word Of God And then we’re reminded of John chapter one where we read that in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.
And we come here to first Peter chapter one verses 22 and 23 and we read that we have been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible through the word of God which lives and by AIDS forever. God says, my word will never pass away. My word will never be corrupted, and it is that seed which gives life, but then go back with me if you will,
to that context. In first Corinthians chapter 15 first Corinthians chapter 15 We find the remainder of this discussion. I mentioned verse 33 he’s talking about a corrupting influence. He’s talking about a corruption that will change their way of life from those who are within the body of Christ teaching that which is false. He says, verse 42 so also is the resurrection of the dead.
The body is sown in corruption, but it is raised in incorruption. He says, now as he’s talking about the resurrection, not only theirs is there going to be one, but the body that is resurrected is immortal. It is without corruption. Then notice verse 50 now I say now this, I say, brethren, that the flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.
Nor does corruption inherit incorruption. The reason the body is changed, the reason why any eternity we won’t be as we are now is because this body is corruptible. This body can be defiled, this body can perish, can decay, but that body will not, and corruption cannot inherit incorruption versus 53 and 54 for this corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality.
So when this corruptible is put on incorruption and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass. The saying that is written, death is swallowed up in victory. So we have the King whose eternal, we have the King who will change us from being corruptible, decaying, departing, dying to incorruptible. But then we also have invisible.
This is simply a word that means not visible, not seen, not observable. And yet it’s interesting that Paul uses the word invisible to reference Christ Price was the one who said to his disciples in John chapter 14 if you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the father and yet it is through the manifestation of Christ that we see the father, that we understand the father,
and yet at the present time when Paul is writing this, Christ can’t be seen. Christ has ascended into heaven and is no longer visible. That is with the natural eyes, but turn to Romans chapter one Romans chapter one verses 18 through 20 we have in this context about paganism, about those who departed from the truth and their of God. This these words for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness because what may be known of God is manifest in them for God has shown it to them.
Notice there’s something that can be known. There’s something that even in the old Testament could be known about God and was manifest was made known to them. Verse 20 for since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes are clearly seen. Now, wait a minute. How can his invisible attributes be clearly seen? How is it that God who cannot be seen has the ability to clearly be seen?
Paul, what do you mean? Notice what he says. For since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead so that they are without, Excuse me. Paul says, you can know that God exists. You can see he who is invisible by the deeds that he’s done by the works that he has manifested by the creation that he has given us,
but then consider as well that Christ revealed the father turned to collage in chapter one we already mentioned John chapter 14 verse nine but Colossians chapter one We read beginning in verse 12 giving thanks to the father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the son of his love.
Notice, here’s the King. Here’s the kingdom in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation. For by him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether Thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through him and for him.
And he is before all things and in him all things consist. We see Christ And yet we don’t. He is visible by his deeds. He is visible by his power. He is visible by his nature. He is visible by his salvation. He is visible by his redemption. He is visible by our forgiveness, Okay. And yet he is invisible.
Peter writes to those in the first century and speaks to Them about the one who though they’ve never seen him yet, they love him. Jesus Christ, the King, eternal, immortal, invisible. And yet Moses were told, and Hebrews chapter 11 and verse 27 for suc, the house of Pharaoh for suck the sin that was around him to be numbered among the people of God As seeing him who was invisible.
Moses was one who saw God. He saw God as a choice to serve God or to serve the flesh, to serve God or to serve sin, to be obedient to God and suffer or to live in pleasure and yet not know God. The King eternal, immortal, invisible is the one to whom we owe honor, glory, praise, worship, salvation,
redemption. And who has promised us and inheritance that is incorruptible, undefiled, and that fades not away. So the question for us is, what will we do with the King? What will we do with his eternal nature? We can’t run away from him. We can outlive him. We can’t die and hope that we’ll just go out of existence. We have a judgment to face and he is King and he is judge,
and yet he has promised us a home. Do you have the assurance of that home today? Do you have the assurance of hope? The assurance steadfast then enters within the veil that when this life is over, that home awaits. There’s a King reigning and he’s waiting for you to come home. If you have need of the invitation, the invitation is open.
Scripture: Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Note: Because of a technical issue, episode 233 is launching before 232.
Scripture: Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Deuteronomy 8:4-5 – Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years. You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you.
So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.

And now, Admonition.
Deuteronomy chapter eight and in verse three, So he humbled you, allowed you to hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know that he might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.
Moses here tells Israel, God allowed you to go through the difficulties in the wilderness. God allowed you to go through the difficulties at this time because he wanted to test you to find out if you would be faithful to him. He wanted to know if you would learn the lesson that he was going to give you, and that is that you need more than this physical world to survive. You need what God will give you. You need the word of God. And when Jesus is tempted by Satan, what do we find? He used this passage to defeat the devil.
Deuteronomy 8:1 – Every commandment which I command you today you must be careful to observe, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers.
Deuteronomy 8:2 – And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

And now, Admonition.
In Deuteronomy chapter eight and in verse two we read this, And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these 40 years in the wilderness to humble you and to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.
God tested Israel in the wilderness. He tested them as they were journeying. He tested them. He tested them with water. He tested them with food. He tested them with the struggles they had to go through, and God tests us today.
How are you doing? As God is testing you, how are you doing on your test from the Lord? Are you being found faithful and righteous before him?
Scripture:
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Matthew 15:9 – And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.

And now, Admonition.
Which is more important, the word of God or the doctrines of men? Some might say, well, that’s, that’s easy. One comes from God and one comes from men. But do we live that way? Do we live in such a way where we hold God’s Word to a lower level in our lives than the traditions that we’ve been following for our entire life or that we’ve been taught for our entire life? In Matthew chapter 15 verse nine we read And in vain they worship me… This is a quotation from Isaiah that Jesus is making. He says… In vain they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men… He’s talking about the Pharisees and he says, these people are teaching men’s commandments as if they’re God’s. And that caused the people to worship in vain.
Can your traditions cause you to lose your soul because of sin? Yes, they can because they can nullify your worship. Be careful about the traditions of men. They can damn your soul.
Scripture:
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Take your Bibles if you will, and open them. The first Timothy chapter one. We will spend a little bit of our time in this passage this morning and then we will continue into a number of other passages throughout our study this morning and tonight we are going to be discussing this topic. The King eternal immortal, invisible. Paul writes to Timothy and as he addresses Timothy,
most likely Timothy at this time is in Ephesus and he is, they’re separated from Paul. Paul is writing to him as a young preacher. He is encouraging him. He is exhorting him, he is continuing to instruct him and he reminds Timothy of his own past. He reminds Timothy of what he used to be Saul of Tarsus, the one who was going about seeking to destroy the church,
seeking to demolish this sect of the Jews as he saw them. This group of people who had departed from Moses had the parted from the law, had departed from the tradition of the elders in his mind who had departed from the Lord and was doing what he thought was right Then as he was headed to Damascus, as he was journeying down the road to Damascus with papers,
with the authority to put Christians in prison, in jail, and even bring them to death. A light shines down from heaven And he is confronted by someone who he knows is the Lord, But knows nothing beyond that<inaudible> And he is confronted concerning the things that he is doing and it is stated, it is hard to kick against the pricks. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried that,
but in a culture that predominantly wore sandals, can you imagine the idea in sandals of kicking thorn bushes and how painful and frustrating that would be? And that’s what Jesus says Saul of Tarsus is doing when he’s trying to defeat him. He questions the Lord. Well, who art thou Lord Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecute us. In Matthew chapter 28 Jesus reveals to his apostles as he is preparing to back into heaven that all authority has been given unto him in heaven and on earth.
Yeah, We live in a society that doesn’t quite appreciate that statement. There is an ongoing dispute in our, in our culture and in our government right now about the possibility of impeaching a president not going to get into the politics of it. I just want you to note one significant fact. It’s possible within our culture to impeach a president. It’s possible under our laws to take the person who’s in the highest office and remove them And generally speaking,
that’s not true of a King. The nature of the King in a standard monarchy in the view of of old Testament and new Testament monarchies, the nature of the King is the King is the highest official in view of God. The King is the giver of laws. Matter of fact, one of the things that we find Moses described as in Christ described as is a law giver.<inaudible> The King.
The King was the highest authority. And so as we begin this morning, noticing this idea, the King, eternal, immortal, invisible, we want to begin with this idea of the King. We’re getting to eternal, immortal, invisible this afternoon. But as we were, as I was studying for this lesson, as I was focusing on these three words that describe the King,
it dawned on me, Aaron, you’ve kind of just jumped past one of the most fundamental aspects, and that is who’s the King and why? Yeah, So that’s what we’re going to spend our time on this morning, the King who he is and why. As we notice this first part, we notice what Paul says here in verse 17 now to the King.
This is a declaration. This is a, a blessing. This. This is a recognition of glory to the King, eternal, immortal, invisible to God alone who is wise beyond her and glory forever and ever. Amen. Now in these passages in a number of the passages that reference God and the King. It’s interesting to look at it because it seems as though won’t maybe God the father’s the one being talked about the goal in the first Timothy Chapter one and let’s read a little further back as we did in our,
in our, uh, scripture reading verse 12. And I thank Christ Jesus, our Lord who has enabled me because he counted me faithful, putting me in the mint, into the ministry. Although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor and an insolent man, but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in on belief. And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant with faith and love,
which are in Christ Jesus twice already. He’s referenced Christ Jesus twice already. He’s referenced our Lord, verse 15. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am chief three times now, Christ Jesus. It’s important to realize that the name Christ is not a name. It is a position.
It is a designation of a position. It is the Messiah, the word from the old Testament. Jesus Emmanuelle is his name. Christ is his authority, but then notice he says, however, for this reason I obtained mercy that in me, Jesus Christ might show all long suffering as a pattern to those who are going to believe on him for everlasting life.
They’re going to believe on who on Christ the antecedent, the nearest antecedent of the next verse is Christ. Now to the King Who’s the King. That’s where we’re going to begin this morning. Notice first and foremost, Matthew chapter two as we trace back this idea of the kingship of Christ, the kingship of Christ. Notice Matthew chapter two beginning in verse one now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea,
in the days of Herod the King, but hold wise men from the East came to Jerusalem saying, where is he? Who has been born King of the Jews? Now, it’s an interesting thing because when a child was born to a King, they weren’t King. They, they were the child of the King. They might’ve been in line to inherit the throne,
but they weren’t King. And yet here come these wise men from the East and they’re searching for the one who noticed the phrase was born King of the Jews. He’s born. He’s King. From that moment is what their understanding is not the King to be the King who is, but none of notice what we read, who’s been born King of the Jews,
for we have seen his star in the East and have come to worship him. They’re not coming to find this King so that they might be able to live under his rule to be able to live as a, as a member of the Jewish society. They are coming because they know this King is not just an earthly King. But then notice further, when Herod the King heard this,
he was troubled and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes, uh, ascribed to the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ Was to be born. These men come from the East and they’re looking for the King of the Jews. And immediately he doesn’t go. What does the old Testament say about a King coming?
He goes, what does the old Desmond say about the Christ coming? The one who is the Messiah, the one who is of the lineage of David, the King who was coming one in the same thing and even Herod knows it, but then notice we read, they said to him in Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet,
but you, Bethlehem in the land of Judah are not believe are not the least among the rulers of Judah. For out of you shall come, a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel. Then Herod when he had sir secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared and he sent them to Bethlehem and said, go and search carefully for the young child and when you have found him bring back word to me that I may come and worship him.
Also when they heard the King, they departed and behold the star which they had seen in the East went before them till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding joy and when they had come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary, his mother and fell down and worshiped him and when they opened their treasures,
they presented gifts to him. Gold, frankincense and myrrh. Then being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod. They departed for their own country. Another way. Notice a number of important details in view of a coming holiday. A couple of details that are significant. Number one, no manger. Number two, no reference to how many wise men.
Number three, The child isn’t a baby anymore, he’s a child and there’s a significant difference in that Apparently the time of the birth and the time of their travel and all of these factors come in. They’re not arriving the day of his birth like the shepherds did. They’re not arriving in the night that he was born. They’re arriving when he is now a child.
The idea there is a toddler, A young child, not a baby, So they come to where Jesus is. They come to, by the way, the house, again, not a manger where Jesus is and they immediately upon seeing him fall down and worship him. If they were worshiping a man, they would have been sinning If they were worshiping an angel And we’ll get to this before we’re done.
They would have been sending but they weren’t. They were worshiping God. They were worshiping the Christ, they were worshiping the King. The wise men know who the King is, they know of his kingship, but then notice the prophets spoke of it. This is most obviously right, Why the wise men know concerning this, but let’s go to Matthew chapter 21 Matthew chapter 21 Beginning in verse one going down through verse five Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethpage at the Mount of olives,
then Jesus sent two disciples saying to them, go into the village opposite you and immediately you will find a donkey tied and a cold with her. Lose them and bring them to me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say the Lord has need of them and immediately he will send them all this was done, that it might be fulfilled,
which was spoken by the prophet saying, tell the daughter of Zion, behold, your King is coming to you. Lonely and sitting on a donkey, a Colt the foal of a donkey. So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded. Now turn to Isaiah chapter 62 Here we have a quotation from the old Testament. Isaiah chapter 62 is one of the passages from wins.
It comes Isaiah chapter 62 verse 10 go through, go through the Gates, prepare the way for the people. Build up, build up the highway, take out the stones, lift up a banner for the peoples. Indeed the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the world, say to the daughter of Zion, Shirley, your salvation is coming, but hold his reward is with him and his work before him.
Here’s the declaration, the cry out to Zion, that G that Matthew references. But then notice Zechariah chapter Denying as Zechariah is writing, he writes to the people. Well, he writes in this prophecy, and by the way, Zechariah is one of those books that when you get to the latter parts of the book of Zechariah, you better be strapped in.
You better be prepared for some interpretation and some, some difficulty and understanding everything that’s stated. But some of the passages we have very clear explanations. We have very clear connections and this is one of them. Zechariah chapter nine beginning in verse nine we read rejoice greatly. O daughter of Zion. Shout O daughter of Jerusalem. Behold, your King is coming to you.
He is just and having salvation lowly and riding on a donkey, a Colt the foal of a donkey. I will cut off the chariot for me, for him and the horse from Jerusalem. The battle though shall be cut off. He shall speak peace to the nations. His dominion shall be from sea to sea and from the river to the ends of the earth.
Notice here comes the King. He doesn’t come with a sword. He doesn’t come on a horse. He doesn’t come in battle. He doesn’t come raining and victorious defeating all of the enemies of the earth. He comes Speaking peace, speaking peace to those who are around them. He comes to bring peace. So then John chapter 12 John chapter 12 beginning in verse 14 John’s reference to this event.
Here we read. Then Jesus, when he had found a young donkey sat on it as it is written, fear not daughter of Zion. Behold your King is coming sitting on a donkey. His disciples did not understand these things at first, But when Jesus was glorified, that means when he was resurrected and ascended back to heaven when he was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him and that he had done or that they had done these things to him.
Notice the prophets spoke concerning Christ as King. The wise men knew the King had come. The prophets spoke Concerning the King. Jesus was aware of this. We’ll get into that more in a minute, but even afterwards, only afterwards do the apostles come to realize the connection with all of these details, but then notice his father gave it to him. Matthew chapter 25 Matthew chapter 25 beginning in verse 34 Jesus is in the midst of giving a number of parables speaking concerning the kingdom and in Matthew chapter 25 verse 34 as he speaks concerning judgment,
he says this, then the King will say to those on his right hand. Now let’s back up to verse 31 let’s get a little bit of context. When the son of man comes in his glory and all the Holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats and he will set the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left.
Then the King will say to those on his right hand, come you blessed of my father. Notice this phrase, come you bless them, my father. Here’s the King. The King is reigning on his throne. The King is judging as a King and yet he says, calm. You blessed of my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world Who prepared the kingdom,
who made the kingdom and prepared the kingdom for the King to reign? Yeah, The father did. The father is the one who gave it. Verse 40 and the King will answer and say to them, assuredly, I say to you in as much as you did it to one of the least of these, my brother, and you did it too Me Multiple times here in this passage,
Christ is The King And he’s reigning over a kingdom given to him by his father, but then as well, in spite of many skeptics who claim that Jesus never claimed to be the Messiah and Jesus never claimed to be the son of God, Jesus never claimed to be this and claimed to be that apparently their struggle with reading is great. John chapter 18 beginning in verse 37 pilot therefore said to him,
Jesus is on trial before pilot. Are you a King? Then Jesus answered. You say rightly that I am a King. Yeah. Pilot says, well, they’ve accused you of claiming to be a cane. Are you? Yes, you’ve spoken rightly, but then notice what he says. Notice how he replies to him. You’ve spoken Reilly, that I am a for this cause.
I was born. I came into a world for this purpose. Not only am I a King, I was born To be a King, but then notice what he says for this cause. I’ve come into the world that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice. I am a King and those who I reign over,
Those who are citizens in my kingdom are the hearers of truth. Pilot said to him, what is truth? Pilot’s skepticism is a parent in the passage, but then notice also Luke chapter 23 Luke chapter 23 in Luke’s account of this, we read in verse 38<inaudible> As Jesus has taken to the cross as Jesus is put on the cross because the Jews were offered a choice.
Do you want me to give you back your King or do you want me to give you back a murderer or a robber? A thief. A an insurgent? Barabis they say, give us Barabis. Crucify him. Okay, So pilot will wash his hands of the Dean and he will send him to be crucified. He will give him back to the Jews.
The day might crucify him. And notice verse 38 though he writes an inscription. It was common in the days of crucifixion that above the head of the individual being crucified was their sentence. What were they guilty of? What is it they had done wrong? Why were they being crucified? And in Jesus’s case, the answer came from pilot. This is the King of the Jews.
Pilot said, this one’s being crucified because He’s the King of the Jews. Jesus definitely claimed to be King. Jesus affirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was the King, but then consider as well that the apostles believed it. And acts chapter one, sorry, John, chapter one, going all the way back to the beginning of Jesus’s ministry.
We find this in John chapter one beginning in verse 49 Nathaniel has interacted with Christ and he has come as a result of what Philip has hold him, but then Philip will be uh, or excuse me, Jesus will tell Nathaniel verse 47 behold an Israelite indeed in whom there is no deceit. Nathaniel said To him, how do you know me? Jesus answered and said to him before Phillip called you when you were under the fig tree,
I saw you. Nathaniel answered and said to him, rabbi, you are the son of God. You are the King of Israel. Jesus answered and said to him, because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree. Do you believe you will see greater things than these? And he said to him, most of surely I say to you here after you shall see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the son of man,
not only do we find here one of the apostles confidence that Jesus was the King of Israel, but we will find Jesus declaring that all of his apostles will see evidence. They will see proof. They will see assurance That he is the King. They will know that he is who Profits claimed he would be. But then turn, if you will, to acts chapter 17 Paul preached it.
Paul preach that Jesus Christ was the King in acts chapter 17 he’s in Thesla Nikah and we read this now when they had passed the rim, pithy, listen Apollonia they came with vessel and I go where there was a synagogue of the Jews. Then Paul, as his custom was went into them and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the scriptures explaining and demonstrating That the Christ,
okay. Remember when the men from the East, the wise men from the East came looking for the King? Herod knew they were looking for the Christ, Okay. Explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead and saying, this Jesus, whom I preached to you is the Christ. But then notice the accusation when the Jews are fed up with this.
When the Jews accused Paul of bringing this doctrine that’s turning the world upside down into the vessel. Anika, we read in verse seven Jason has harbored them. They’re accusing Jason of this and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar. Caesar saying there is another King. Well, who were they saying is the King Jesus. Jesus is the one that Paul was preaching as the King.
He was preaching him as the Christ. He was preaching him as the Messiah. Okay, But then This, Not only is it clear that the prophets knew Jesus would be the King And that the wise men knew that the King had come And that Jesus claimed to be the King and was put on the cross because of being the King and that the apostles were assured that he was the King and that even Paul one born out of due season knew and preached that he was the King,
but also consider that Satan was defeated because he was the King. Revelation chapter 17 One of these days we’re going to do a study of the book of revelation. It is my probably my favorite book in all of the new Testament in revelation chapter 17 and in verse well we read the 10 horns which you saw are 10 Kings, whoever received no kingdom as yet,
but they received authority for one hour as Kings from with the beast. These are of one mind and they will give their power and authority to the beast. So just a little bit of back story. You’ve got the beast who’s risen up, who’s defying God, who’s blaspheming God? Who’s opposing the lamb? Who’s opposing God, the father, and now he’s giving a 42 these Kings of the earth.
He’s instilling these Kings of the earth with this authority. But then notice verse 14 these will make war with the lamb. The lamb is introduced to us in chapter five he’s the lamb who appears to be slain and yet he is standing. He’s alive, yet he appears to have been killed. He’s the Christ. He’s the Messiah who died, who’s not dead.
He’s the one who’s alive forever more chapter one then notice what we read. These will make over the lamb and the lamb will overcome them. For he is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. Those who are with him are called chosen and faithful. The bees will make war with the King But he won’t win. But turn to Deuteronomy chapter 10 before we move back into revelation,
you might keep your finger over there for a minute. We’ll be back in chapter 19 in a moment, but in Deuteronomy chapter 10 we have The precursor to This reference. Deuteronomy chapter 10 beginning in verse 17 we read for the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of Lords. Okay, This is Moses speaking to Israel, preparing them to receive the inheritance,
preparing them to go through the Jordan river to go into the land to receive what God has been promising them for 400 years And he reminds them your God is a God of gods and Lord of Lords. He says, the great God, all mighty and awesome who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe. He administers justice for the father, was in the widows and loves the stranger giving him food and clothing.
Therefore love the stranger. For you were strangers in the land of Egypt. You shall fear the Lord your God. You shall serve him and to him you shall hold fast and take owes in his name. He is your praise and he is your God who has done for you these great and awesome things which you have your which your eyes have seen. Your father’s went down to Egypt with 70 persons and now the Lord your God has made you as the stars of heaven in multitude.
Moses declares your God is the God of gods. Your Lord is the Lord of Lords and you’ve seen his deliverance. It’s Now to the first century to the church. John writes to the church that’s going through the midst of persecution that’s facing the trouble that’s coming at them from every direction that’s dying for the name of Christ. He reminds them Just as Moses did,
your God is the God of gods. Your Lord is the Lord of Lords. You fear him. You listen to him, you follow him. The lamb will defeat the beast. Turn over to revelation chapter 19 when we find this Jesus Christ is the King. Yeah. Everything that we’ve said thus far declares Jesus Christ is The King and because of it,
we ought to worship him just as the wise men did. Revelation Chapter 19 Yeah, Beginning in verse nine we read. Then he said to me, this is an angel saying to John, right? Blessed are those who were called to the marriage supper of the lamb, and he said to me, these are the true sayings of gone, and I fell at his feet to worship him,
but he said to me, see that you do not do that. I am your fellow servant and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus worship God for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. The angels here, the angel declares this to John and John falls down in the midst of these things going on and he worships the angel. The angel tells him,
no, don’t do that. You remember how we said with the wise men came in, if they were worshiping a man, they would have seen if they were worshiping. An angel, they would have seen but they weren’t. They were worshiping God. Okay, Jesus, the Christ The King. And so the angel says to John, get up. I’m just another servant.
I am just a servant the same way you are. But then notice verse 11 now I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse and he who sat on him was called faithful and true and in righteousness he judges and makes war. What’s that? That’s a King. Verse 12 verse 12 his eyes were like a flame of fire and on his head were many crowns.
What’s that? A King. He had had a name written that no one knew except himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood. He’s a victorious King. His name is called the word of God. Now you hold onto that phrase for this afternoon. His name is called the word of God, and the armies in heaven clothed in fine linen,
white and clean, followed him on white horses. Now out of his mouth goes a sharp sword and that with it, he should strike the nations and he himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He himself treads the wine press of the fear, fierceness and wrath of almighty God. And he has on his robe and on his thigh a name Written King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Jesus Christ, isn’t it Kane? And when John falls down to worship the angel, the angel says, no, don’t you do it. Okay. And the next thing John C Is the King. All of the implications clear. There’s the one you worship. There’s the one you serve. There’s the one you follow. His name’s the word of God Out of his comes a sharp sword.
So then what does all this mean for us? He’s the King. So what? He’s the King of those who hear the truth. John chapter 17 verse 17 he said, sanctify them by thy truth. Thy word is truth. He called upon those who would believe on him to be one. He called upon them to hear his voice. He called upon all those who would hear the truth to become his citizens,
And that includes you and me. Our choice is to either serve the King Or be judged by the King. Now we come from a society that may look at that and think, that’s, that’s not the way it ought to be. I ought to have freedom. You do. You have freedom to choose whether or not you will serve The King, But you also have freedom to choose to be judged.
The choice is yours. He won’t keep you from making the choice, but he did say, by my words, you will be judged, but I hope you’ll come back this afternoon for the three words because the picture of the King, eternal immortal, and I’ll bet you don’t actually know what that one means. The King eternal, immortal and invisible Is waiting to reign in your life and mind,
But is he okay? Are you fearing him and obeying his voice today? If you’re outside the body of Christ, you’re not because the body of Christ, the church of Christ, the people, the assembly that make up his body Are those whom he rules. They are his kingdom. If you are outside the body of Christ this morning, why? Because you’re outside all the blessings that the King has to offer.
We’ll talk about those this afternoon, but if you’re here this morning and you have need of responding to the invitation, whether as a Christian who’s turned away as a citizen who’s turned his back on the King or one outside of the body of Christ, who needs to put his King on in baptism, dying to his old self, dying to his old sovereign,
dying to his old ruler of sin and rising again out of that watery grave to walk in newness of life, A citizen of the kingdom. You’ve not done that. Why not do that today? Do you have need of the invitation? Why not come as we stand in as we sing.

And now, Admonition.
Where does sin come from in the life of an individual? Is it outside forces? Is it? Is it nurture? Is it nature? Where does sin come from? Jesus tells us in Matthew chapter 15, for out of the heart, proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witnesses, blasphemies.
Jesus says, if your problem is sin, your problems in your heart, we need to be careful to not excuse sin. We might look at a sin and we might say, you know what? That’s a little thing. That’s, that’s not a big sin. Some someone has a problem controlling their mouth that that’s a little thing. The problem is the Bible says the sin that’s outward is an indication of a problem in the heart that’s much deeper, much more significant. We need to guard our heart for out of that comes the issues of life.
